Hewitt: 'He will not play Davis Cup while I have anything to do with it'

TA detests McNamee as he has spent much energy trying to reform it, so if you want open warfare he would be the best candidate.

I'm sure those two could both do a very good job, particularly McNamee and agree the process for appointment should be transparent and impartial.

Eh? Think Pat wld be very temperamental and un-calm, ..
More to the point. When they have sat down in serious meetings with people like Cash they would quickly realise he's a McEnroe-esque buffoon. You don't let people who are famous or were great at sport take on serious roles without having tons of support/advisors. If they wont listen or try to run things autocratically then they can't be helped.

Hewitt, for all the criticisms he gets, is not a buffoon. He can manage the tennis and the managerial side of this period of Davis Cup (with the right help as always). I just hope he's smart enough to recognise that good advice is good advice.

I guess that's a nice bonus, but cost of maintenance was never given as a reason for the replacement at the time.
Actually, it was one of the reasons. I know because the club I played at made the chance shortly after Melbourne Park for the same reason and the club's courts were laid by the same people who did Melbourne Park. I heard the discussions first-hand as the old courts were being torn up.

Rebound Ace was too easily damaged and hard to lay perfectly in even perfect conditions. And it was an absolute nightmare to repair. Marquee courts like Rod Laver would need to be completely relaid because of a handful of badly located dings just a few cm long. With Plexicusion you can fix most those same dings overnight.

I don't have any problem with there being warfare at TA, but the people orchestrating the coup shouldn't be so incapable of leadership themselves.

PP was chosen quickly under controversial circumstances.

There was a genuine reason for the shift as RA was seen as sticky in the heat and therefore dangerous.

Hewitt also spent years moaning about RA but what role that played is unknown.

TA then subsidised the spread of PP.

I find standard-issue PP far too gritty but it is indeed comfortable.

From what I have read about Bernard and John Tomic...there is zero benefit of the doubt there. They are the type of people who cause problems wherever they go.

Bernard should have put some distance between himself and his father, his failure to do that has wrecked his career and made him a sullen, deranged man.

As I stated in the post you replied to: focus on the message, not the messenger. But you're doing the exact opposite.

Eh? Think Pat wld be very temperamental and un-calm, and think of McNamee as a spent force in that he better at tournaments, rather than being in the cauldron anymore.

Has been talk of cahill as a possible and wld think that preferrable, not that the two above wouldn't be good, just better wld be Cahill or a current coach if you see what I mean. The above two are great achievers just maybe not ideal to be in the thick of it. Anyway will DC survive anyway...???!!!

Yes, they're probably squabbling over a dead carcass. The reason I think McNamee would be good is that he seems quite affable and I suspect he has a few IQ points on the others. He might be able to tap into the minds of Kyrgios and Tomic in a way that makes them realise their rational interests lie in either committing to the sport or retiring, not being objects of global ridicule.

We weren't talking about them. People who change topics when things get tough for them seem to be ubiquitous around here.

How do I know that Tomic and Kyrgios aren't great leaders lol? True greats don't play pokemon as adults or tank finals because they got caught in traffic on the way to the match.

The Australian cricketers are on lucrative multi-year contracts with profit-sharing whereas Australian tennis players are treated like day labourers during the depression.

If you want to know why bad blood exists, you need look no further. The wild card tooth fairy is obviously where this repressed issue emerges most strongly.

ive gained respect for hewitt, hes the only the only public tennis figure to tell it like it is and call tomic a straight up "clown"

We don't need Hewitt to tell us Tomic is a clown. It seems to have been the consensus of most people for quite a long time.

But Hewitt telling the world 'Bernie is just Bernie' one day and then telling the world 'Bernie is a violent blackmailer' the next demonstrates his own clownish behaviour as well.

I'm almost convinced. I still say the process was strange. Rebound Ace say they weren't given the chance to submit a surface for testing...would their newest version of it be more reparable? Plus I don't think saving an extra $10k here and there would be a factor in picking PP. Whatever they paid for it would have given them an extra decade of Rebound Ace.

Australian banks cheat their customers, homes for the aged beat their clients, footballers go on drunken brawls every second weekend and there is a cricketer up on a rape charge.

Then there are the three cricketers outed for cheating in the most despicable manner.

Australian tennis players are choir boys in comparison.

So Tomic and Kyrgios want to get rid of Hewitt. Ok. Who do they want in his place? ....and why would anyone acquiesce to people who don't meet the first target of a professional competitor....trying.

I'll take the latter as my ATP World Cup team and you can have the second-rankers playing the competition called, inaccurately, the Davis Cup.
As an Aussie - no thanks! I'll take Demon, Milkman, Bolt, Popryn, Peers and Old Man Hewitt in my Davis Cup team any day over Tomic, Nick & Kokk no matter what the rankings are.

This is one of the most pointless posts lmfao. How can you compare cilic, raonic and even daniel (vs an injured player)

honestly just delete this post, it's just asking for pointless arguments and drama imo

While we're at it though, I think the media absolutely does bait Nick and perhaps Tomic into an emotional response. Nick has defo tried to be more professional during interviews but in the last few it did seem as if interviewers were trying to get an angry response fro him. Seems abit of a cycle of interviewers pushing nick until he blows, then he cops more flack etc etc and because of this I think Nick and Tomic will always have somewhat of a spiral of being represented badly. Tomic has absolutely been playing much better in his matches from what i've seen on youtube from the last 6 months

If it was me, I would say that it would be good if someone besides Lleyton stepped in, gave lleyton a break and let Nick and tomic start fresh to prove themselves and work their way into davis cup

Should at least get the facts right:

The Managing Direct of the management company who manages Hewitt came out on the record and said Hewitt has no stake in the company. And the Aussie players who got WCs are not managed by the same company. There is no conflict of interest on Hweitt in this matter whatsoever.

John Newcombe confirmed today Hewitt was asked to play doubles. He didn't pick himself.

So two significant allegations from Tomic don't stand the scrutiny. I'm focusing on the message, not the messenger here.

You do not have any access to verifiable objective evidence.

You only have claims made by friends and allies of Lleyton Hewitt.

Only an independent inquiry can ascertain the facts, and until that happens you have nothing.

Wally Masur coached the Davis Cup team both well and harmoniously, so it can be done.

No DC, or LC or ATPC meaning they might start the 3 stooges cup where we had an early
highlight match up at Kooyong of Tomical vs Kyrgross that got more boos than Serena
wanting to kill a lines woman vs Clijsters.

Honestly you could not be more wrong. Did you just start following tennis mid last year or something

Honestly, I don't know how you and others are missing the point here, especially that this is NOT about Hewitt, but Tennis AU's desires. Tomic, Kyrios, Kokk all have been supported by tennis AU and haven't performed as a representative like they want. Tomic has had a few titles (the few times he actually tried in all those years), sure, but everything in between has been marginal to embarrassing, with the biggest issue his entitlement. On point, Tennis AU just spoke exactly to that gravy train ending and opportunities (such as the wildcards) disappearing. Not sure if you just blindly follow Tomic and aren't aware he has been a tool for some time, but go ahead and stick with that amazing record as the criteria you think represents a player/country/tennis.

-------
Tennis Australia says it will only offer support to players who live the right values
“Tonight Alex de Minaur and Kim Birrell are playing the biggest matches of their young careers and we have no doubt they will acquit themselves well.” (The second half of the statement appeared to reference the drama at Melbourne Park this week, headlined by Bernard Tomic’s very public spat with Lleyton Hewitt.)

“The common denominator of these successes, along with the wonderful wins last night for Alex Bolt and Alexei Popyrin, has been each players’ unwavering passion to compete and their genuine love of the game, all underpinned by the Tennis Australia values of excellence, loyalty, teamwork and humility” Dwyer said.

“Support and opportunities will be offered to players who live these values and demonstrate the commitment to maximize their potential, with our ultimate ambition being to develop and foster athletes we can all be proud of.”

Tomic and his camp have fallen out over funding issues in the past, while Hewitt has vowed never to pick Tomic for Davis Cup duty again.

maybe Tomic Snr or Fakerpovas dope prescribing Russian Doctor

I only know a few Aussies personally, but that is their same opinion. They aren't tennis players themselves, but casual tennis fans, so for them to even not like them says a lot about the situation.

Tomic and Nick- Change your citizenship, come to Europe!
We will straighten them up and give them the support they deserve, enough w this Australian drama.
And Hewitt seem to me not like a good leader at all.

LMAO for a whole 1 year and post operative Hewitt and Sam Gross had to save the selfies from even worse humility
vs lower ranked Kazaks ex-Russian KooKooshkin who couldnt get a spot in Russian tennis or any hand outs
so went to where he was wanted and journey man Aleksandr Nedovyesov.

What a wally.

Lol still extremely bxtthurt I see from a 16 yo junkie kid beating peak Agassi in Adelaide,
time to let go of that grudge and straighten yourself out first it will help.
Agassi tried to tell Nole how to hit the dble handed bh and look what that did to him
now his starving for a purpose in his life by picking up the crumbs and trolling Dmitroll

Rafter was a failure and Hewitt has had no success as yet and not likely to given that he values noble failure above success.

Both Rafter and Hewitt are too wooden and uncommunicative to be able to deal with anyone who isn't a carbon copy of themselves.

How can people with no people skills coach a diverse group of people? A bad answer is to cull all those who aren't like yourself.

I love how Hewitt and Rafter have no people skills here in dealing with Kyrgios and Tomic.

Wally Masur didn't have a problem. The reality is that dealing with difficult people is in the job description. They both failed.

Hewitt is deluded if he thinks he did anything for Tomic that was at all useful. He married a mousy little thing he dominates. He's found this again with de Minaur.

Oh I agree there are problems higher up, but him playing doubles, coaching certain players, and seeing to it wildcards go to players under the same management company as him..... his hands are far from clean here. Yes, those allowing this to happen should be held to account, but it doesn't absolve him.

Not to mention, everyone keeps pointing to the fact these players' behaviors disqualify them from commenting, because, what, Hewitt is now the standard for decorum? Seems to me they fit right in based on that scale.

Quoted for truth. Hewitt should have been kicked out of that infamous USO show-of-true-self against Blake, but immoral heads prevailed to keep this despicable individual in the event.

While I think Newcombe may be doing some damage control, credit where it's due. You are focusing on the message.

Hewitt actually over-communicates and reaches everyone he can, has endless time for those in need
very different to his court behavior, an excellent commentator not pretentious just straight and accurate.

The problem is simple you got 3 very talented guys that were hungry when they were 15-18 and now
are cashed up love slagging superiors in social media dont want to do anything unless it makes them look cool
and generally CBF putting in hard yards like their lower ranked less talented country men.

Best Cull the Cancerous Tumors these selfie twits are and start fresh with up and coming even lesser players
that can train with potential hopeful youngsters in sporadic funded Aussie tennis landscapes.
Help each other in a tennis community that is free of these nasty pests and aim for Harry Hopman like discipline.
America is doing better than their wannabe muricans but as I stated elsewhere HC only courts dont make tough players.

I’m not a huge Agassi fan

He did quite well actually in marrying someone in the upper class who actually is loyal to the lower class antics of Hewitts family
She was a good score for someone like him and if you were in his shoes would prob be pleasing her more than Hewitt does.

Hewitt tried to reach out to Tomic at practice sessions and was snubbed by the snot nosed wxnker this is well documented.
Tomical Snr headbutted and drew blood from a young Spanish kid that was sticking up for Tomic while being abused

DeMosquito likes Hewitt and is thankful of his input and has helped his belief. Still swinging a racquet 50 grams lighter
than Hewitt wont help him conquer top 10 players but he is only 19. However in the next 10 years I dont see anyone
having Hewitts success or reaching no1 since you are heading for that view so I will save you the typing.

Dealing affluent selfies that lack all respect for their positions, duties and superiors while whinging about others when they lose
is not a job for Masur, Hewitt or anyones its just time the powers that be intervene severely without the ATPs views on ticket sales.
They need to say enough is enough these tumors are just media selfies so go and play for China for all we care.

I’m not a huge Agassi fan
and not steffi graph in disguise? Oh my apologies I feel awkward now :) but you are wrong about Hewitt
he is a great superior figure, not in a leading sense but someone to confide in and listen to
He also beats all his charges and the Tumorous Trio in almost all other activities even outside tennis

Blackmail requires one party to have damaging information on the other, which is being withheld in exchange for some benefit. Trading DC play for a WC does not constitute blackmail.

Just to clarify Im not fan of Hewitt in many ways but he has his values and many young kids still
want to have the grit he had which probably was his best and only positive thing in his tennis.
As a tennis instructor or mentor he is priceless, he loves the game and loves the heritage but
doesnt want to be involved with the parasitic trio that thrive on their sad egos rather than training.

When to stubborn jerks collide: Aussie Tennis

However, if Thanasi was passed over for a lower ranked guy within Hewitt's management/coaching then that's a bit fowl.
