You're quickly becoming one of my favourite posters dafinch.
Not that you care!
Nothing ties the bonds like anger.
Too true - this thread reads like children arguing about who the cool kid likes the most.
Interesting read though, thanks for the link OP.
do you think the change in tone is opportunism or the maturity of getting old and becoming aware of your own mortality, on the court and off?
OP, great interview. Thanks for posting.
Kind words are always appreciated, thank you. Not that YOU care, but "Baker Street" by the late Gerry Rafferty is one of my favorite songs, lol...
There are parallels between Hewitt and the great Agassi. They both started out as brash tempestuous young players who matured into elder statesmen with age.
Can't agree with that. Agassi may have dressed loudly but his manner was always pretty mild and he was pretty polite to opponents and officials. The punk player was mostly a Nike marketing gimmick extending his flashier tendencies anyway. His achievements and toning down of his image just drew many more old school admirers in his later days but he was essentially the same guy with less hair and quieter outfits. Hewitt was a pretty much a pig from day one and now that he's facing the twilight days of his career and is angling for some media work he's trying to come over all avuncular and twinkly. I don't buy it for a minute. He's less an elder statesman than a wolf trying to don sheep's clothing.
anyone else get the impression he doesn't really like argentinian players?
He said he likes the younger players like Del Potro and Monaco. To be fair to Hewitt, Nalbandian and Chela are huge ***holes...
i was thinking about the guy who got pinched for doping at the french open too.
Him and Nalbandian didn't get on? I thought Hewitt had beef with Coria
Hewitt had beef with lots of the Argentine players. Chela spat in his face, some other guy kept grabbing his junk (the Argentinian's, not Hewitt's) during a davis cup match and so on... don't know where it all started. probably one "C'MON!!" too many or something.
Davis Cup junk grabbing:
Not the best ambassadors for the sport, these guys...
Butthurt for something that has not happened. It must be a stressfull life.
You mean the guy who called Sampras a gorilla or sth like that?
Yeah, as we saw at the IW exo, he's still the same guy now - a jerk.
Exactly. Plus he actually swatted a ball in frustration and hit a lines person, by accident, but hitting her all the same, and nothing was done.
I once saw Isner drinking Gatorade.
recent interview with Lleyton... on injuries, family, end of career and davis cup...
Hadn't watched that second video before. If you can lipread a little, Coria clearly says, "hijo de p***" while he touches his junk and then later, when the referee reprimands him for it, he tries to explain that he has a skin irritation on his leg. Ha ha, good try.
Watched Lleyton in Memphis earlier this week....still a fiesty fella, yelling at line judges and discussing line calls on several occasions (grandstand court doesn't have hawkeye). Got spanked by Istomin. As he was walking out, one of the ballkids held out her hand to him for a high five but he just walked by...ouch!
Sweet answers by the bloke
Ah, he's still got all the charm of a hemorrhoid.
As for fed being aloof ...Hes a far better person that Stupid pistol pete. Who was the most arrogant lout there ever was.....Just ask courier and agassi. Even now the lout thinks he can beat fed.
I dont have a problem with aloof as long as thankfully fed respects his fellow players unlike pete
