Now we all know Connors played late but do we remember:

1991 Connors beats Petr Korda 6-3 6-4....2 rounds later loses to Mcenroe! 6-1, 6-3

also in 91 loses to Edberg in 2 tough matches: 3-6 6-4 4-6
4-6 7-6(5) 1-6
(in 89, Connors destroyed Edberg at the US open after Edberg had just won Wimbledon 6-2, 6-3, 6-1...that was after Edberg was GIVEN a point and game because of Connor's...um...behavior....)

In 1992 Connors played Stich 3 times!
Losing 2 times: 6-4, 6-3 and 7-5,3-6, 6-7,6-1,6-2
amd winning once:7-5,6-7, 7-5

In 93 Connors made semis in San Francisco beating 3 players then
defaulting to Brad Gilbert 6-1, 1-4...

In 94 Connors beat Doug Flach then lost to Mal Washington 6-4, 3-6, 6-1

In 95 Connors beat Olympic gold medalist Sebastian Lareau and Martin Sinner (who?) on grass before losing to Marc Rosset.

in 96 Conors lost to Richey Reneberg 6-2, 3-6, 6-1

in 2002 Connors lost to Federer 6-3, 4-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1

OK, just kidding on the last one. But I do suspect Connors is still playing in diguise, for a while he played as Kiefer but now the real Kiefer is playing....just look for the brown bowl cut hair....

I know, that of course is the only reason I posted the Kriek stuff, I also didn't realize he dabbled that late and the modern overlap...or for that matter that Connors played tour matches to 96!


Took only 15 min. or so to compile the info.

As for Rickson, I'm still waiting for post with anything other than amusement value from him..... I dont' think there are drugs good enough to make me believe my 3.5 buddy hits volleys better than Roddick or make such insightful revelations as:

"I found it interesting that a 1hbh pro never uses the 2hbh, but the 2hbh pros all use the 1hbh slice on occasion. I don't think you'll ever witness Federer or Haas going to a 2hbh."

I love that one....

Now I know this thread would not be of interest to everyone, but I found the info interesting so I shared it. It's interesting because:

1.few know these guys played that long
2.the results I posted were against the new generation and it's fun to look at such match ups

I named the threat "twilight zone" both to point out the unusual nature of my post and the unusual nature of the overlapping generational match ups. In addition "twilight" is a reference to the fact that this was the very end of these careers.
