Hidden Gem: Head Liquidmetal Instinct MP

A lot of people know about the Liquidmetal Instinct Tour XL, since Gasquet still uses it on the tour. I've hit with it, and it is a fine racquet, but just wasn't for me. Anyways I've been getting interested in 18x19 patterned racquets. I did some research, and saw that the LM Instinct MP has an 18x19 pattern as opposed to the more open pattern of the Instinct Tour XL. I found a MP version for cheap, and decided to buy one. Wow! What a great racquet. The liquidmetal line has great feel to me. The LM Radical MP is my main racquet (but maybe not much longer). The Instinct has good pop, feel, spin is there when you need it, serves have movement, and you can flatten out put away shots nicely. Anyone else hit with this one, and love it?

How does it compare to Microgel Instinct MP? That is also 18x19 pattern; just saw the Microgel version for sale online and looks like that it is back!

I don't know. The Liquidmetal Instinct MP and Tour XL are the only two I've ever hit with.

The Liquidmetal has higher swing weight than the Microgel. It feels a bit head heavy, kinda like a Blade but not as clubby as a Blade. Older Instincts are)were very good racquets. You are correct, you can still buy the Microgel new.

Ok, thx. I think that Head should also reissue the IG Prestige line!

Didnt like the LM instinct. It hit ok but i swear the head is bigger than 100inch and it just seemed “clunky” to me, though how much of it was in my head who knows.

I do agree that more racquets should try the 18*19 pattern though.

It does feel big, but it's actually 98inches. Head measured their racquets from the outside of the frames back then. The 98 Radicals are actually 95.

Thats the gold one right? Richard Gasquet still uses this under an Extreme pj. Also Yen-Hsun Lu (haven’t seen him around in awhile).[/QYeah, it's the gold one. But Gasquet uses the Tour XL version. His is extended length, more headlight, and a 16x19 pattern. The one I'm hitting is the Mid Plus version with the 18x19 pattern at standard length.

As mentioned above, the swingweight for the Microgel Instinct is lower than the Liquidmetal Instinct. It is more manueverable and has a more dampened feel. It does need a little weight added for better stability, but like the Liquidmetal Instinct, it is a good all around racquet that is easy to use.

Regret I picked the Radical (liquidmetal) over this one. This one would have better fitted my game. In my area I just saw everyone with a Radical so I decided I needed one as well.

What is the real headsize btw? Head claims it is 100 sq in but we all know Head is not always accurate about headsizes.

I have LM and MG Instincts. On paper, the specs are about as close to perfect as I can imagine. I really like the 18x19 string pattern on the slightly bigger headsize--great blend of control and spin.

But for some reason, both of these racquets just burned my arm. I was using soft poly, at one point was thinking about a gut/poly hybrid but never tried it. But even from the first hit, it feels more like a APD than the rated 63-64 stiffness. It's a big bummer too, because the stiffness on the Instincts provide a massive sweetspot.

On the headsize, I think it's about a 99. It's definitely bigger than today's 98, but maybe not a full 100.

[/Q I've had to give up on my Liquidmetals for the same reason.

It is really a 98inch Head. I have two for sale if you’re interested. Let me know

Picking one of these up in really good 8.5-9/10 condition for around $70 tomorrow. Heard great things about this racquet. Moving from a Yonex Ezone 98, mainly because my arm can't take the jarring upper hoop of that frame.

What sort of differences should I look forward to expect?

I’m selling mine unfortunately. I’m having elbow issues, and this racquet needs a poly in it. I’ve never hit that ezone, but I’m pretty sure the instinct had a higher swingweight. It has great plow, control, and access to spin when you need it.

If it’s 4 1/2, send me a message.
