 ive been looking for over 3 weeks for high top tennis shoes. Since i had a pair of low new balances and a half a size to big, i sprained my ankle pretty bad. My foot doctor said to get some hightops so im trying. The highest ive got is prince quicktrac mid and prince nfs mid. Ive tried on the nfs mid and its on my ankle, im looking for something a little higher. Are their any high-top tennis shoes out there? if so please link me.

Thanks,
Jay

Try basketball shoes. The construction of a tennis shoe and basketball shoe are pretty similar and there are lots of choices in high top shoes. Because basketball shoe styles change pretty quickly you can get some good prices on these shoes. I have worn them for tennis and they work very well. The only downside is that they wear a little quicker than tennis shoes since most models are designed for hardwood floors and not tennis courts.

The problems are availability and tradeoffs between weight and support. I've tried many -- Prince usually has a few in their line, but the most supportive ones, the Viper line, are heavy, and the Quicktracs don't fit me so well. I had a really nice pair of New Balance (752? 652? their numbers are so generic and hard to remember) that fit great but offered less ankle support and durability. Head Games fit well and were comfortable, but they were a little soft and discontinued anyway. I once had a pair of K Swiss 7.0 whatevers, which were very high and had an extra strap, but they were extremely clunky and stiff -- like Frankenstein out there -- and discontinued. They now have the Ultra Ascendors, which I haven't tried. I've had two pairs of Wilson 7000s (I think) -- durable, good ankle support, mediocre fit, a bit clunky, discontinued ...

You get the point? Clunky and discontinued and hard to find ... I need new ones myself ... have my eye on the Nike Air Resolves, the K Swiss, the new Filas ... Diadora have some, too, but I haven't tried them ... may go back to Prince ... Wish NB would bring another one out, or Asics -- I've been using their running shoes for almost 20 years ... or Adidas, which makes good basketball shoes, why can't they make a good mid-rise tennis shoe? I may wind up investing in some good ankle braces and go with some good-quality, low-gravity low tops ... there's lots of them out there.

Try reading next time. Unless you're already wearing ankle braces, high tops are a complete waste of money.

no, im not wearing ankle braces. Why spend the money and ankle braces and save one foot when i can spend 80-100 bucks and save both my ankles and time? Yea i just got the prince nfs and they're ok.. The only problem with basketball shoes taht ive noticed is the side to side support is way off. That and they go down pretty quick. I just saw the fila opean mids.. Those look really nice aswell, may achually try them out. Anyways, yeah i agree with you bcaz; i achually saw a pair of reebok tennis shoes, high tops. They were orignally made in 1992 and they started making them again. Only problem is there not in my size. Question.... Why arnt there high top tennis shoes around(that arnt disscontinued)

Waimea Boy, can you recommend any good, high-quality ankle braces, or any to stay away from?

Maybe you can try out a pair of basketball shoes? Then again they're incredibly heavy and your feet will stink. :D

Basketball shoes do not give enough side to side support. And yeah they are really heavy. I honestly want to stear away from ankle braces. No particular reason why....

Very poor decision.

As for braces, I like the Kallassy non-lace version, RocketSoc Drytex and the MalleoLoc. The ASO that TW sells is good for a lace-up brace.

i dont think im hurt so bad that i need the support of a brace. I think i should take it step by step. High tops then if i roll my ankle again, ill go for the brace

Wise choice. More money for me that way.

It wasn't until I was 49 that I found that my ankle problems came from my footbeing unstable. I now have prescribed hard insoles and I have not rolled an ankle while wearing them,7 seasons and counting. I also have a pair of good ankle braces which i use if I want to play without the orthotics.
The pros wear braces and this is one time that following thier equipment choice will save you money in the long run. A good set of braces will hold up quite well and you will have a wider range of shoes to pick from.
Good luck.

Im a big guy, so im not the fastest on the court... a brace will slow me down ridiculasly.. i can keep up with 70% of the players but with the brace ill be down to nothing. 5'10 190 pounds....
