Interesting comparison I think, these guys have similar playstyles. Great 1hbh's, heavy topspin from both sides, and they inject a fair bit of crafty all-court play into their games.

Gasquet has been ranked higher but that may be due to Kohlschreiber's mental instability so their actual playing levels may be closer than you'd think...

Who's peak is better?

For years people have gushed about Gasquet’s BH, to me Kohli’s has always seemed the better of the two.

I love the way Kohli’s game works on all surfaces. He can come to the net, volley, play well behind the baseline, construct and execute complicated patterns.

I reckon it’s is FH that isn’t world class. Too spinny at times. It can’t get him through the big guys on tour.

I like your poll. Between the two I would take Kohli. But no doubt about it, Gasquet has also eked out a stellar career from the table scraps available to the rest of the tour the last decade.

I hope Kohli wins IW.

My favourite Kohli memory - world class against Djokovic.

Kohlschreiber has a more offensive mindset, solid on both wings, and better serve. Gasquet tends to stay 3 meters behind the baseline in a neutral rally and has no forehand. If you need more proof, look up Roddick vs. Kohlschreiber AO 2008, then tell me a similar match where Gasquet looked as good as that match.

As much as Gasquet has disappointed us, his peak level is higher than Kohlis. Multiple major semi finals to Kohlis one quarter, higher peak ranking.

Gasquets peak was his heroic loss to Nadal at Monte Carlo in 2005. He also hit an impressive peak beating Roddick in Wimbledon 2007.

Kohli is a very solid all round player who lacks a huge weapon while Gasquets backhand is one of the best.

It’s a toughie no doubt. Gasquet has had more consistent results. Nothing to quibble with there.

Just a question.

2007 win over Roddick at Wimbledon or 2009 win over Djokovic at French Open?

Which seems the more noteworthy?

For me I went with Djokovic at FO.

Tough to pick Kohli, as much as I would like to, when he has never even reached the semis of a major or m1000. Given so much time, you'd think his peak would have occurred often enough to translate to wins on the biggest stages at least a few times, if it were better than Gasquets. His careers mostly been injury-free.
