David Ferrer vs top TWENTY on grass is 2-8. This is not even cream of the crop which he never faced. Just 1 match vs top 5 losing to Murray

Medvedev is 8-7 vs top TWENTY on grass including win over Sinner number 1 in BO5 and another win vs Wawrinka when Medvedev was barely 20. He got banned in 2022 for both grass events and 2020 was cancelled still far ahead of Ferrer and there is zero big 3 excuse as Ferrer never met a single one of them.

They deleted the Ferrer AO 11 masterclass beating Nadal :( I’ll see if I can find another video

Having seen that though, clearly Ferrer at AO/clay for me. Medvedev got upset by MUGs the past few years at AO anyway, proving his losses to Oldvak/Oldal were not really worth anything.

Do you see him causing trouble to young Djokovic/Nadal/Murray? There’s no argument for it. Djokovic in 2021 beat him as badly as possible. It was horrible from Medvedev, a legitimate 3/10 performance.

Ferrer was actually pretty legit in some of those AOs. And obviously I prefer him on clay.

Med has a sizable advantage in the NA HC swing as well as indoors.

About even on grass, maybe with a slight advantage to Med.

Ferrer is better at Roland Garros by far. Medvedev is better at USO. Toss up for AO and Wimbledon.

The fact that the best 90s player isn't clearly better than a tier 3 player born in the 80s is quite embarassing.

Hard to say. The opposition Ferrer faced 2011-2014 was on a whole other level. Much younger Big4+Stan & Delpo. There is no way Meddy wins a slam those years either.
Ferrer didn't even come close to winning it. Meddy somehow choked 2 meaning he would be 3 time champ in today.

What you are saying is 3 time champ caliber today is worse than b tier guy then.

That's where I draw swords

I don't rate Med that high, but I rate Ferrer even lower than that. He wouldn't have been able to do what Med did at 2021 USO.

Ferrer would've easily beaten the players Med beat in route to the final. And CYGS-pressured Djokovic (who was never great in US Open finals to begin with) was losing to whoever was on the other side of the net.

Im saying Medvedev has a lopsided losing record vs old Big3. He wouldnt stand a chance vs younger Big3 + Stan, Murray and DelPo. Ferrers peak was in one of the toughest periods of the 2000s. As far as I remember, he was almost always stopped by only Big4. Im not sure if Med would even win a masters title back in 2011-2014, maybe he would snatch one, like Ferrer did.

AO: Med by a little
RG: Ferrer by a country mile
WB: Med but they both kinda suck
USO: Med by a little

for the record my favorte Med AO match that he won is his 2024 match vs Zverev, and my favorite Med USO match that he won is his 2023 match vs Alcaraz

In toughest peak he did ****.

Stop overrating Ferrer completely. You can say he gave huge problems to players FOR HIS HEIGHT. I will be very blunt. For his height , he did well but that is the hand he is dealt with and he can not do much better at all.

Look at the players below, except ADM and Berdych, they are all grinders.

What do you see? Do you see that 1-3 shot 47% winning percentages? This Ferrer guy should not be over respected because you can not teach height. He did best he could for his height but at the end

The frankly ridiculous 5.3 rally length on service pts will always be a downfall.

Yeah, it ain’t close on grass. Med’s better than a lot of people like to give him credit for.

I had created this thread in 2022.

While not top pick, he is top 4 I think. Recent (4 months) form not included.

I’d be shocked if he ever actually won Wimbledon, to be honest, but he’s a solid second-tier contender who can at least get decently close and potentially trouble the true top dogs.

Ferrer was actually above 61% games won on clay in 2011 and 2012. Thats insane, i wasnt aware. Doesnt help one bit when you play 65% Rafa though...

Ferrer probably . I would wager if he at his peak or prime from 2018-present he would have nabbed more than one measly slam like Medvedev. The field was pretty damn wide open from 2018-2023 and Medvedev essentially did nothing at the slams like the rest of his worthless generation of peers
