Higher HC peak?

A-Rod was at his HC peak between summer '03 and Miami '04, while Med has had two peak stretches on HC so far during summer/fall 2019 and from Bercy '20 until AO '21.

During those 8 months, A-Rod: Won the USO title, 3 Masters, 6 titles, 6 finals, 7 wins vs top 10 players

In those two combined stretches, Med: Made 2 slam finals (USO & AO), 3 Masters, WTF, 6 titles (including ATP Cup), 9 finals, and 17 wins vs top 10 players

Who had the higher peak on HC between Stifler and Sheet?

Look, Med isn't bad on HCs; he's pretty good, and he's got the kind of game that can frustrate the heck out of players on slower, low-bouncing surfaces. But nothing he has comes close to the serve + forehand 1-2 combo that peak 2003-2004 Roddick had (or even some of Andy's weaker versions). Roddick had a weak backhand and (less weak) return and Medvedev might be a more all-rounded player, but when you have huge weapons like those two (and the forehand and serve are the two shots you'll hit the most in a tennis match), you can cover up those weaknesses well enough. And when your weak shots are having a good day, you've got a red-hot player on your hands.

Here's some highlights from when he swept the NA hard court season in 2003:

Very early on in the Ferrero video at 1:53, you'll see exactly what made the Roddick forehand such a weapon.

Unfair timing. Now Medvedev looks like a mug after Djokovic destroyed him. Plus, Roddick is a Slam winner. But let us not forget 1) that Roddick was usually destroyed by Federer and 2) Medvedev is quite young and can still win Slams.

Make this thread a few years later once Medvedev is a Slam winner.

Roddick at his best was clearly a better HC player than 2019 Medvedev. I need to think a bit more about how he compares to 2020-21 Med, but right now I'm thinking that leans Roddick, as well.

I'd pick Roddick too cuz of the slam win but really 14-0 in favour of the Yankee?

Y'all are underestimating Med a bit, the man made 6 straight finals during the first stretch (including 2 Masters and USO final) and in the second one, won 21 straight matches winning a Masters, WTF, AO final, and beat like 12 straight top 10 players (with all due respect, Roddick never never did that, especially the second part)

That is not a biggie. Medvedev also gets destroyed by Federer.

Their last meeting was before Medvedev's first Masters / YEC / Slam final.

So, you refuse to deal with context, when it suits you and spew out only stats, and you forget stats, and look for context, when it suits you?

Booo-hooo, as if I need more proof what is there on offer.

Back to your cave.

Medevdev gets owned by Federer, Rafa, Novak who are 15, 10 and 9 years older to him.
Roddick had a winning H2H over Sampras and next gen Djokovic.

So the poll itself is an insult to common sense, of course it is Roddick on HCs ....

I can't remember how ARod played because the downfall of Pete made me lose some interest in tennis but from my poor memories Arod was much more impressive than Danil.

Roddick would play dank servebot and grind tennis, hit 0 forehand winners for entire sets, and then still take more wins off Nadal and Djokovic than Medvedev did.

I would 100% rank Roddick as most miscoached player of all time.

Similar to the Djokovic Vs Roddick on grass, or Djokovic Vs Hewitt on grass threads, the poll results in this thread as well, will look quite funny in let's say 5-6 years time from now. 8-B

Yes, but similar to the trolls that ignore the time frame in which the questions differ "now" and "5-6 years from now", just to troll, also this thread will show their true work.

Agreed.

Let's not forget the praise Medvedev received after 2019 Cinci SF. His hail Mary serving was very low percentage, but he pulled it off and won the match. Great mindset they say.

Once things started to go Djokovic's way at the AO, he even tried the same thing couple of times, but failed miserably. And predictably, he is thrown under the bus by the same people.

Now, ain't that roddickulous?

I'm not sure it's actually possible to underestimate next-genners.

Roddick still won the Canada-Cincy-USO triple, something only 2 other players have done. (y)

It's not poor timing at all.

Roddick was actually playing peak Federer closer than Medvedev played a mid 30's Djokovic.

I don't care how good Djokovic is, you get no bonus points for getting destroyed by a Djokovic who was way past his physical prime.

Djokovic played a great match in the AO 2021 final. It's sad that you can't see it and enjoy it.

Top 10 guys in the last 30 years of debut @ the slams

01 Federer
02 Djokovic
03 Nadal
04 Safin (higher peak than murray and stanimal so placed him ahead)
05 Stanimal
06 Murray
07 Roddick
08 Gustavo Kuerten
09 Hewitt
10 Martin Del Potro

Jokers like Medvedev are not even in the top 15 yet, maybe not even in top 20, there are other worthy candidates.
