Jimmy Arias said during an online interview that he was challenging to deal with when he turned pro, at least during the first years.
About this comment, Jimmy told how José Higueras suggested to Arias, when he saw him having dinner alone the night before the final, that both players would play in the 1983 edition of the Rome tournament that they should have dinner together. Arias was stunned by the proposal and Jose's friendliness. Jimmy also said that Jose had surely noticed the inner loneliness that Arias was trying to hide behind his boastfulness, but he took Higueras' cordiality into account.

"And don't forget that anyone who likes tennis is my friend."
