Hitting the wall, what do you think? (video)

Tonight my wife had a very important match so I went with her to hit before the match, just for the warm up. Since I had nothing to do i decided to hit the wall for a while and just like that decided to use my cellphone to see my strokes.

I have to tell you, this is very funny! This is the second time I film myself but never for so much time. I focus my self on hitting clean so I do not have to much headspeed, also Im trying not to do that thing when finish my fh but I always forget about it, I think it doesnt hurt me that much anyway, also I do not know why I lift my left foot after my bh.

Well what do you think of my strokes against the wall. Btw, this is a 4.5 level wall so it is very consistent :)

i think this is solid stuff. the only other general thing i have to say(not necessarily saying you did this wrong) but make sure when you practice with a wall, you don't go for 100% power shots, go for clean strokes with good spin and good mechanics. Also make sure you aim for your shots to hit a certain height on the wall. Hitting with a wall is productive but one of those worst things about a wall is that it's not a court. Therefore, you have no way of completely knowing where your shots land in relation to your opponent.

One of the biggest mistakes of my tennis career is that i trained hard with a wall for 3 days straight right before a tournament. The problem is that i trained all wrong. I went for nailing the ball as hard as i could and not worrying about where the ball landed on the wall. My form and follow through was really modified. The result of the tournament was absolutely terrible. All of my shots were powerful shots straight at the top of the net....just a warning.

But from the videos, it seems that you aren't making the mistake i made.

Nice -- and good video from your phone. I like to use either dead or quick-start balls when going up against the wall.

Totally agree, one should think more in practice the mechanics than to kill the ball (it happens eventually anyway, I mean the ball dies while hitting against the wall!)

you're good
i hate doing fancy wrlst movements. my strokes are simple

Me too, I have been trying to not do them, but when I start hitting on rallies they always come back!

Yes I was suprise by the quality, I also use dead balls, using new balls against the wall is a waist, you literally kill the ball!

Thank you all for your answers. Have Fun.

If you are going to hit against a wall, try hitting a lower number of shot (maybe 10/20) with really good form. In your video, your foot work breaks down later in the video because you are getting tired. You see, for example, that you are lunging into the ball and the ball is almost hitting your body.

the first min of the video look good. but... not sure if its the same when u do 3 matches involving running. since your footwork deminish.

what about against humans.

No I do not have any video playing with people, I mean I have one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGySiOIrK70 but is doubles and really old.

Yea you are right about that, one can get really tired hitting the wall, specially with +2 min rallies, but that is the point I mean, having consistency while tired.

Well, I am in pretty good shape, however I do not know if me ( or anyone I know) can play three matches and keep the same stamina in all of them. Also not all the rallies ina real match are more than 1 min long, arent they? :)

you need to do split steps;

you better hitting off the 2nd bounce from the ground. this way the rythm and the ball flight is closer to hitting against a person.
