Hold of Serve Streak

I read today that Nadal won 62 straight service games, that got me thinking. Does anyone know the record for straight services games won?

62 seems like it would be up there, but I assume a better server than Nadal has won more?

I'm racking my brain..but I'm pretty sure pete wasn't broken in the 2001
US open until the final..so that's 6 straight slam matches. he did lose a couple of breakers so obviously he served a few more times maybe?

so if rafa wins the title without getting broken..he beats petes record probably....i can see him extending in semis maybe..but final? doubt it.

Halle 2008 would have been best of 3 and only 5 matches? That would still leave him a bit shy of the streak of 62

pete had streaks of 101 holds at wimby 2000 and 87 games in USO 2001 ... nadal himself had around 80 games hold streak in 2006 wimby ...

federer's highest was 75 IIRC , broken by suzuki takao in their 2005 AO match

Nadal is getting the US Open record for the fewest breaks. Roddick has the record with 5, and Nadal can make it a definite if he beats Youzhny comfortably.

On a related topic, Federer I believe is the only person in the open era to have won 2 tournaments without losing his serve. I think Berdych is the only other current player to have done it even once.

These are the longest streaks I am aware of:

97: Sampras at '97 Wimbledon(from early in his first round match until late in his semi)
87: Sampras at '01 USO(streak ended in first game of the final)
81: Isner
81: Mahut
80: Nadal at '06 USO(streak ended in first game of the final)

On a related topic, Federer I believe is the only person in the open era to have won 2 tournaments without losing his serve.

atp doesn't track this record(they have absolutely no serving stats pre 1991)
what is your source?

I would bet Mac in '84 has some of these records, just look at the scores of most of his matches that year. If he doesn't have the hold% record, he has to have the break% record for the Open Era. And I imagine some streaks happened along the way.

pete had streaks of 101 holds at wimby 2000

The 101 holds were over a 2 year period at Wimbledon('00 & '01) so I don't think that should count.

I believe the record-holder is Wayne Arthurs with his streak of 111 service holds in a row, if I remember correctly.

Well, that includes qualifying. ATP doesn't include qualifying results in any ace records, head to heads for players, or win/loss so not sure if this should count.

These 'record' aspects of tennis are so young, like I said earlier its very possible someone like Mac(or better yet Martina N in the early to mid 80s) did something amazing serve-wise that no one was keeping track of at all. What a shame.

Was just watching the '85 W final, Bud Collins said that Kevin Curren held serve 64 straight times in that event. He's probably the best source for this sort of stuff, not the very young ATP.

It was listed in the career achievements of Federer - which I saw some while ago (on wikipedia) when checking a comment made by a commentator at either the last USO or this year's Aussie Open.

The comment was made because Berdych had become the only other person to achieve it. (there is a thread about it somewhere here also)

So far as only going back to 1991.. If that's true then I'd guess it's still a pretty astonishing achievement. A 20 year period which had 2 of the best servers the tennis world has ever known - in their primes too - Sampras and Ivanisevic.

^this is all that is on wikipedia about this:

In two tournaments that Federer won (2005 Qatar ExxonMobil Open and 2008 Gerry Weber Open), he won every game he served

no mention of it being any sort of record.
