I recently switched from my Fischer M Pro 98 1 SL over to the Volkl PB 10 mid. I love the new racquet. I haven't been able to find the right string combo yet though.
With my Fischers I was using Technifibre Black Code 17g at 58. With the flexy racquet and fairly soft string I had really nice ball pocketing which provided me great control.
When I demoed the Volkl it was string with NXT at 55 which was nice. Had good control but couldn't hit full out on groundies. I have an eastern forehand and hit fairly flat. When I purchased the racquet I strung it up with a full set of black code at 57lbs. It just didn't feel right. I was spraying a bit and could never really dial it in. My volleying seemed to suffer also. I could never get really crisp hits.
I cut it out and did a 180 and string up a full bed of gosen 16L at 56. Volleys are excellent, serve ok, but my groundies are really suffering. I am having major problems bringing the ball down into the court. Groundies that would be in with the Fischer/BC setup are a good foot out.
So I come to the stringing gurus to get some advice. Should I try a poly/syn/multi hybrid? Try a different type of poly? I can't handle a a super stiff poly. I fractured my radial head 9 years ago and have two screws in there. A harsh poly tears up my arm. Used to use Cyberflash and it felt like my arm was going to fall off.
Any help is appreciated.
