Honeybee Math: Bees = Smarter than You

Honeybees appear to be masters of 6 dimensional math. Their bee dances utilize an intricate and explicit language that incorporates a high-level, esoteric math concept known as flag manifold. Bee dances are performed to indicate sources of nectar, pollen and water. They can also dance to convey information about new nest-site locations.

By performing these dances, successful foragers can share information about the precise distance and direction of patches of flowers that will yield nectar and pollen or other critical information with other members of the colony. Their dance choreography provides info relative to the position of the sun.

And, of course, the sun position changes during the day. Dancing bees that have been in the nest for an extended time adjust the angles of their dances to accommodate the changing direction of the sun. Therefore, bees that follow the waggle run of the dance are still correctly led to the food source even though its angle relative to the sun has changed.

Are you saying that bees are autistic?
Maybe, I mean, I work with Autistic students all the time, and I could see it. Then again, bees seem to be social creatures, but the autistic students that I have known dont like social interaction... at all.

Bees were not social with me when I once accidentally disturbed a honeycomb o_O

I thought you taught stats. When and how did you work with autistic kids?

I currently have 2 students in stats and one in calculus. They are genius with numbers but very hard to work with at times. I have two that literally try to explain how they see it in 4 dimensions and I don't have any clue what they mean.

They can to all types of calculations in their heads instantly that would take my other very high cognitive students 10 minutes with a calculator.
