With the exception of the Bryan Brothers Inc., doubles players normally play with several different partners.

If two top doubles players (who don't share the same ranking) sign up to play doubles, how is their seeding in the tournament calculated?

Are their doubles rankings averaged into one number?

Many top doubles teams - not just the Bryan Brothers - exclusively play together. There are, though, separate team rankings and individual rankings.

The ATP and ITF rulebooks explain how the doubles rankings work. Both are available as PDF files on the respective websites.

Fee is correct.

Here is a very simple outline to get you started. Teams will be entered into doubles based on the highest combined rankings of either singles or doubles. If the #1 doubles player in the world teams up with the #1 singles player in the world, their ENTRY ranking in doubles would be (2). They would be #1 on the entry list.

Seeding is determined by combined doubles ranking only. So if Bob Bryan were to partner with Andy Roddick, they would get in easily by ranking, but would most likely not be seeded because of Roddick's doubles ranking.
