How are you passing the time?

With the plague upon us, everything is being shut down.

I never realized how much of my free time goes into sports until it's been completely taken away from us.

With my work life already being digitized for the foreseeable future, I am finding myself increasingly more bored.

How are you passing the time? Are you still doing things outside? Do you know anyone directly infected at this point in time?

I've been bored out of my mind and it's only day 4 for me. I haven't done anything outside yet. My Uncle has been quarantined. 5 people in his department have confirmed cases.

I'm not worried about catching it myself. My immune system would likely have zero issue fighting it off, but I still worry about giving it to my Dad or older people. Or really anyone, I wouldn't want that on my conscience. So I'm isolating.

Give us the skinny on what you're doing for the closest thing we'll probably ever get to an Apocalypse.

Shopping for food and staples at varied grocery and wholesales outlets. I got lucky and one the grocery stores unload 6 pack of Charm Ultra bathroom tissues! I was the second person to grab a package! And just ran 30 feet and watch the chaos take place. It like piranhas finding meat! Forgot shooting video, I was so excited! Makes MMA fight look mild!

Please, stay away from TTW (jk, but it appears that he/you are in a hotspot)!

I am doing all the things I was doing before, bar the social events that have been cancelled almost everywhere (that really is annoying, much more so than the sports events). Actually my own sports have not halted at all: tennis, running and cycling are going on as usual. My yoga classes went online for the time being, so I am doing it from home. It is also active time for the gardening and bonsai stuff (replanting/repotting, waking up the the plants, spraying, trimming for the last time where necessary, etc). Had to change my plans for travelling to Italy in the early Spring (yeah, that is not happening now), so I am scratching the itch by ordering stuff that I can't get to physically. I will be looking up to read more on the eventual craft hobby I was thinking about, so the time comes in handy, even if out of necessity. Buying wine and other stuff more than usual too. Other than that, just chilling and reading about /watching the panic which, on a social level, is pretty amusing (bar the tragical aspects of the situation).

With that said, in business and academia it it is a chaos of epic proportions for those that need to reorganise (get the meetings rescheduled, see which team meets where and how to get things done when the teams cannot be on site due to travel bans, getting stuff running online etc etc) , so a lot of work to get the things done ASAP. I am happy that I don't have to get involved, lol. Hard times to live in, if one has to do it.

Well I isolated for soo long in the past with my mental health and haven’t been able to work for years so I’m use to free time and what to do so I don’t get bored.
This time around will be doing much the same as always like playing video games, reading books, doing puzzles, playing board games, watching tv or movies and or Netflix. Going online, chatting to my friends. There’s plenty of hobbies to do.
Maybe even keep a diary of my everyday thoughts.

Yeah haha it's a police department, so with how much they're out and about and in closed quarters a lot, I'm not too surprised it seems to be spreading there. I haven't heard back if he actually has the virus yet. Given he had an open heart surgery a few years back, I really hope not. He'd definitely fall into the category of people that could have serious problems with the virus if he were to get it.

Sorry to hear that about your mental health, I hope nowadays it's better and the widespread panic displayed by a lot of people isn't getting to you too much. My sister is struggling with it at the moment.

We shouldn't downplay this because we don't know how bad it can get, but we should remain calm as well.

thanks, it’s been like this for years. I am a lot better now, been doing some voluntary work but unfortunately have to stop that for awhile cause where I’m doing that work is too risky rn. The panic has made me a bit uneasy at times. Although more worried about getting this virus and giving it to my dad as well, as he has an ongoing condition and don’t wanna be responsible for giving it to him but I live with him, so it may happen and makes me upset and stressed.

Just was told yesterday I’m getting three weeks off from the job. My daughter’s school and sports were canceled too. It’s snowing in Ohio so I’m going to pack up and travel to Georgia and stay with my brother’s family. I’ll be able to play tennis daily!

Working every night. There are still some people traveling to Orlando so I haven’t done too badly yet but the full Euro travel ban could mean the bottom drops out after the current crew in town head home. Then it will be only American visitors until the ban is lifted.

Airfare is dirt cheap right now to Florida, there has to be some bargain hunters out there.

Americans that frequent my area usually get here by driving from local areas and other sections of the state. We get others from the Southeast too and most of them drive here as well rather than fly and rent a car. The drivers will enjoy low gas prices and hotel rates.

The big dropoff will be the convention center flow (2nd largest facility in the country.) We already lost two big meetings (60K plus people) and many more will cancel or postpone. I’m already convinced the SAP (German software company) won’t be here in May. They need a green light at least 30 days out to not reschedule because of the logistics of hosting 40K attendees. That would be just when the initial ban could be lifted, or not.

Beer always improves accuracy and safety in shooting sports!

In any event, it was a below average attempt at humour.

No attempt at humor at all

Its what I am doing tomorrow

Just got Tru-Glo sights and the Cajun Gun Works trigger package installed on my CZ P-01 and have not had a chance for the last two weeks to take out my new AR-10 build.

Its a toss up between sporting clays, taking out the steel targets for rifle, or hitting the pistol bays

Beer is not a choice

It's only been a few days and I am bored to hell. I played tennis and won today but even that didn't fix my mood. The more I sit at home the more I eat and that gives my body a bad feeling. The only escape seems to be playing tennis as there's nothing else to do but weather is not great in March so probably next few weeks will be very tough.

We have been asked to work from home so of course I will be doing some stuff for work but I know I will have time on my hands. This is a very good time to improve some of my coding skills, I think. It will not only keep me entertained but will also bolster me with some skills for work in the future. That apart I am going to be listening to some good music, read a book or two that I have been putting off.

Had a bit of a sore throat about a week ago, so I went to the doctor and got it checked out. He told me it shouldn't be anything serious and to drink hot water + gargling with salt water a couple of times a day, which has helped a lot and I feel normal now.

No tennis here for the next three weeks unless the temps get up into the upper 50s again. Both indoor facilities are closed until April 6 (for now). Spending most of my time reading tweets from microbiologists/epidemiologists and scouring for disease data.

Actually, that is debatable from what I've read so far.

The reference to temperature was more for finding people to hit with. Most of the people I know won't play in temps below 65º ... LOL ... Then there is the handful that won't play outdoors if there is a modest breeze.

Staying indoors and watching youtube videos or movies, when I'm not at work.
If your weather is good, there’s nothing more healthy than fresh air and filling your lungs with it rather than the same more stale air inside. Get out but stay six feet away from any neighbor. It also rids any cabin fever that will accumulate.

No confirmed cases in the city I live in yet but everything is starting to close down so I am probably done with table tennis and beer for a while.

The good thing is I can be quite productive even if I spend a whole day at home. Plenty of programming to learn and no-equipment workouts to complete, and I can benefit from both. Apart from that, some video games and Youtube are always a decent distraction.

Having no sports to watch is the biggest downside in the last week or so. Although if the situation gets worse, having significantly less eye to eye communication would hit me harder. However I feel that my positivity would be at an all time high if we get through this.

If it makes you feel any better, Medieval Europe got through the Plague multiple times. I think we should be able to handle this, though it might take some doing.

Mostly multiplayer games like the Mario Kart games and Street Fighter. I also played through Super Mario World two times in the last week which seems to suggest that I'm getting bored. Not sure what to play now.

Mario Kart Wii is the best. Been playing it for years, yet to be bored of that game.
Have you got any devices? Free game apps are great when you get bored. I play solitaire, spider solitaire and FreeCell a lot, also a word game called Wordscapes very addictive if you like a challenge.

Painted two rooms, swapped out a dozen power outlets and a handful of switches. I'll be painting another room this week and swapping a few more switches. I need to finish my taxes, and work on daughters' taxes as well. I've got a couple of woodworking projects I need to start. And of course, Netflix, Britbox (man, their app sux big time), Prime, and Hulu.
