How can anyone be trying to diminish Nadals win?

As a Federer fan since first seeing him. I think its incredible what Nadal has done. Its inhuman, I mean 11 FO's I mean, there aren't words for this. He's now matched Margaret Court with the most trophies at a slam. And sorry, but I think the only reason Court got 11, was half the players didn't make the trip down under. Nadal has had full competition, so I put him alone. And this will be a huge record that he will hold alone.

Way to go Nadal on your win, you deserve it
 
Its worthy of enormous praise indeed.

And he made it look so easy as well. He always appears in control in the rally. His anticipation and movement is as good as ever. Incredible.
 
Just look at some of Court's AO titles, it's not that controversial, it's well known that there were some weak draws. The 1960 draw for instance, her first of eleven AO titles. An absolute joke like many of the pre open era draws.

Rafa's record is by far the more impressive, don't think many are diminishing it tbh, just a bit salty that he's closing the major race lead to three again. I certainly didn't want him to win today.

Nadal's record is more impressive, but that 1960 draw wasn't the best example to have picked for Court - she did after all beat the world No 1 (the sadly departed Maria Bueno) in the QF of that tournament.

Nadal needs to complete the dirty dozen at Roland Garros to definitively have sole place of honour in slam singles history.

I suppose you're right, still, a whopping 32 players in the draw, 30 of them being Australians, with many names being very unfamiliar with most I would wager. Searching a few of them, I can't find much at all online. I just don't think comparisons should be made at all with pre and post open era. Even though that's kind of what I'm doing....
 
I mean let's just look at the quality of Nadal's opponents in his RG wins.

2005 - Puerta not the most illustrious opponent (and tested positive for doping), but Rafa beat Fed in the semis, on his tournament debut no less.
2006 - Federer. No comment needed.
2007 - Federer. No comment needed.
2008 - Federer. No comment needed.
2010 - Söderling. Perhaps Nadal's weakest draw, but Robin is still a two-time RG finalist, and had knocked out Nadal the previous year, and Fed in 2010.
2011 - Federer. No comment needed.
2012 - Djokovic. No comment needed.
2013 - Ferrer - probably one of the best players not to win a slam. However, the real highlight was Nadal's epic SF against Djokovic, winning 9-7 in the fifth.
2014 - Djokovic. No comment needed.
2017 - Wawrinka, 3-time GS champion (including 2015 RG). Also beat Thiem in the SF, after the latter took out Djokovic.
2018 - Thiem. Draw may look a bit weak at the moment, but still had to face Del Potro in the SF, and Thiem may well be a multiple major champion in the future.

In particular, in 8 years out of 11, Nadal beat an all-time great on his way to the title. Indeed, nobody can say he did it the easy way - even if he made it look easy at times!
 
Oh there's already been posts that he's cheating from time in between points, or that the competition wasn't good. Unless, I read the wrong year. But even if I read the wrong year, trust me there will be posters who do try and diminish it

There's no diminishing his total dominance of RG.
He's always played the best available competition to win it so can't complain. Thiem was the best clay player other than Nadal himself, and he played Delpo too, so fair's fair.

How many will he end up getting you reckon?

Regardless of what his opponents are doing, since he cannot control that, Nadal always brings it to RG and especially to the final. Their shortcomings should in no way be used to diminish him as a champion, since he is there ready to battle and give it his all. As for the time between points...well, personally I don't get too bothered by it. And if the player is getting bothered, then he should complain to the umpire.

I'm not sure that there are more - statistically at least that's unlikely, as Federer's fanbase is larger. :)

They probably both talk as loudly as each other, however.

Exactly, no one’s trying to diminish it except the odd fool, but they come out of the woodwork any time Fed, Rafa, Djokovic or Murray wins.
It’s an amazing achievement, end of.
 
Only 11 titles? What a mug, considering he participated 14 times. If You’re really that good, you should never lose.:)

Yes, its true, I really should have put that at the end, that I'm a Nadal fan too, but Fed is my favorite. Guess I just wanted to emphasize that one who loves Federer also respects and acknowledges all of Nadals accomplishments
 
What's scarier is to think he may not even be close to being done.
I read a comment here that Nadal didn't look as dominant as he has in the past.
Looked plenty dominant to me.

To be fair, it's a very effective trick. Run every single ball down and spin it as hard as possible. That's about it.

He has a lethal backhand, can flatten out the forehand when he wants. His net game and touch are great. He breaks serve at one of the top rates on tour. Can go from defense to offense.

He is the complete opposite of a one trick pony.
