First round: Stefan Koubek
Second round: [29]Filippo Volandri or Michael Llodra

--Volandri has been nothing short of terrible the last several tourneys, so I'm including Llodra as a possibility.
Third round: [6]James Blake
--We all know Querrey can beat Blake, although I'm not sure who the edge would go to in a best-of-5 match. I'll take Querrey.
Round of 16: [18]Marcos Baghdatis or [10]Tommy Haas
--I like the winner of Querrey/Baghdatis to come out of this quarter.
QF: Who knows?
--The top half of Sam's quarter (if that makes sense) is more wide open than Anna Ko...never mind. I could see Davydenko, Kiefer, Almagro, Murray, Hrbaty, or Canas getting hot and making the QF.
SF: [1]Roger Federer
--'Nuff said.
F: Yeah right.
--Stop dreaming. Even I'm not that high on Kool-Aid.

My guess would be 3rd round. He's got it in him to make it that far, but I think Blake's playing too well right now to let him get any further.

3rd round to Blake - his first two rounds are BEYOND easy

Davidson Wildcats to the 2008 Final 4 - now THAT's Kool-Aid for ya

He's looking good all the way until the thrid round when he faces Blake. He's been beating players like he will have to face all summer.

I voted first round out.. But maybe he will survive that round. If he survives first round he will lose to Llodra in the second for sure.

Semis to Federer maybe. That is the most he can do. I think he has a chance to beat any of Blake, Haas, or Davydenko. However those guys also have a chance to beat him. So anywhere from 3rd round to semis. Will be interesting to see.

Davidson will be playing UCLA early on December 8, 2007. We'll see what kind of team Davidson's got. :)
You might also get to witness them take on Duke, Charlotte and NC State in that same month, and UNC on November 16. I suggest you watch closely, and have several mini fridges full of cherry Kool-Aid at your side.

We are going off on a serious tangent :)

You have to hand it to them for not backing down from anybody and playing 3 probable top 10 teams on their out of conference schedule. But then again when you are playing in the Southern Conference with Wofford, Elon and the Citadel how else are you going to get some real competition? ;)

OMG, what a collapse. He should be very dissapointed with himself. He's had a few of these this year. For a guy who is said to have a great attitude, he can really take a dump on the court.

After the solid summer he had I'm in agreement. I think the kid has the potential to be a solid pro, but you have to keep your head in the game and grind it out even if you aren't playing your best. Too lose like this in your country's Grand Slam makes you wonder.

Terrible loss. After he blew those 7 set points in the first, he completely tanked. Very immature response. He still may have lost, but there is no way he should have gone down 1 and 1 in the next two sets, especially with his serve.

I think "tennis08tarheels" jinxed Querrey with this premature thread. It's generally not a good thing to project too far out into the future. I had Querrey in 3 different parlays...all losers thanks to Sam. Lots of guys had Querrey and lost because of his dreadful performance. Some of the most godawful tennis I have ever seen. This loss reminds me a lot of Sam's loss to Korolev in Las Vegas earlier this year. You never know what you are going to get with Querrey. I think he plays better when he is the underdog as opposed to being the favorite and expected to win. The sad thing is that he didn't even look like he wanted to be there. He's got a long way to go about learning how to be a professional.

It is a very bad loss, but let's be supportive.

We are all ready to annoint Young, Isner, Querry, or whomever, the next great champion when they win, and then turn around and write them off when they lose.

Sam's shown he's got game, and hopefully he'll learn something from this loss.

Querrey has more talent than Isner but Isner is older and maybe more mature. Isner has yet to lose when he is the favorite and has won many matches when he is the underdog. Sam has been on the pro circuit for over a year, his results should be more consistent. The Donald is just getting his feet wet. He's got a lot of talent but needs to learn how to work the points better rather than just going for winners all the time. All these guys have lots of talent and they may get to the Top 50 on their talent alone but it won't be enough to keep them there.

I know it is easy to throw stones while sitting at home in front of a computer, while the guy you're abusing is out there on the court having to actually compete. I will try to be more supportive. However, I agree with Tchocky that this being Sam's second spell on the U.S. hardcourts, he should be showing a little more mental prowess than he did today. He's just faded in a couple big matches this year. One to Haas in Houston, and another to Falla at Wimbledon where he did virtually the same thing as today.

That scoreline shows that Querry just gave up. With his serve there is no way he should be surrendering 2 breaks a set to a guy like Koubek. Maybe if his opponent was playing out of his mind I could see it, but Querry just mailed it in after he choked away the first set.

You're right though that hopefully he is learning from these matches. Lord knows he has plenty of time to do it.

Going down like that, that's terrible. I didn't see much of the match. Querrey seemed to be playing alright. But USA switched back and forth. He should have been able to take down Koubek.

The way Sam just went away after losing the 1st set...you almost have to think he'd been approached to take a dive. I didn't see any suspicous betting activity on this match but this result is a lot more suspect than Davydenko's retirement in Sopot. I hope the ATP is investigating this situation.

Wow, talk about bitter. You lost your bets because you didn't see this coming, and neither did anyone else. Get over it.

the only person who needs to get over the Querrey loss is you - as your still getting defensive about it, having been the one who pretty much guaranteed Sam would make at least the third round

even JMac last night said Querrey quit the last 2 sets, pretty embarassing if Querrey is supposed to be of our bright stars.

I have gotten over it. I lose money on better players than Querrey all the time. I wasn't upset with his loss as much as the manner in which he loss.

Please point out to me where I said that. Or better yet, if you can find a place where I said that, print out a copy, mail it to me, and I'll eat it.
