Yes.Surely you've met people from Chile.
I’ve heard quite a few Brazilians say that they understand a decent amount of Spanish from various Latin American regions but those Spanish-speaking people have a very difficult time understanding their Brazilian PortugueseMy memory of my travels around Mexico from 30 years ago was that it varies from very fast in the northwest states, to quite slow and easy to follow in the southern states. Some parts of Colombia the Spanish had a bit of an Italian cadence to it, but generally not too fast. I find Colombian Spanish relatively easy to follow.
I find the Chilean Spanish to be on the fast side, but mostly it’s really mumbly and tougher for a gringo to understand. Paraguayan Spanish is a little like that, but more sing-song rhythmic fluid than mumbly fluid.
Maybe our Spanish dialect experts on the forum can chime in.
Keep in mind that I am a chameleon in style. I can play many different styles of tennis, but they are all ugly.Ita an interesting thread, reading the match writing I imagine @travlerajm playing some great beautiful tennis agains a former top 300 pro at fairly same age and a 30 yo no 14 in Chile. Close matches.
Then I came across this video.

Chile is kind of like an island, because of the barrier of the Andes. It's the standard hick dialect issue, ser also Scottish vs. English and South Tyrolean/Austrian vs. German.
When I was a kid I used to get shipped off via bus to summer with family in Argentina from chile - by myselfChile is kind of like an island, because of the barrier of the Andes.
A Paraguayan can easily hop on a bus and get to Brazil or Argentina. But takes more guaraníes to pay for an airfare.
