How do I get Poly to NOT kink and crimp?

I'm just starting to string polyester strings..
I've strung synth gut on my dropweight (MutualPower Hercules 610) for some time now..
but every time I try poly, it always kinks and crimps and bends (weakening the string significantly)

How can I prevent this from happening??
Is there any secret to stringing poly? I know youre supposed to drop tension ~5-10%.

I don't think there's any real secret, just make sure you lay out the strings well and be careful when you are pulling the strings before tensioning. I've had some kinks and bends when stringing poly, but it hasn't affected it as far as breaking prematurely.

it might be because it's kinking while being tensioned since it is a dropweight...and you can't prevent thouse unless you get a new machine with a linear gripper

You can try pre-stretching it if it isn't SPPP or some other poly that specifies not to pre-stretch. If you can, buy a reel. The poly off a reel has significantly less coil memory than individual sets and therefore won't kink as much. Other than that, you just have to pull slow enough to watch for kinks.

You pretty much have to babysit the slack when you string polys. That's just the way it is. If you don't then the string will twist and kink and generally run wild. After a little practice you get used to it.

I never really had problems with coil memory or kinking of polys even though I strung the softest to the stiffest polys.

The parts to be really careful about is when you're pulling it through the grommets to take out the slack. Pay more attention as you're tightening it against the frame because that's where most of the kinking occurs.

One question: when and where did the polys kink when you were stringing?

Well, I string on a dropweight with a linear ratchet gripper (Mutual power Hercules 610).

The poly strings usually crimp in two places.

First is when I string the poly around the grommets, the poly string crimps around the edge of the racquet and I'm worried that will weaken those points.

Second, the poly string crimps when I try to put it into the linear gripper. This is because when I want to tension the string, I need to pull the string perpendicular to the string gripper. This pulling-perpendicular-to-the-gripper causes the crimp in the poly string.

Are there any ways to remedy the problems?

palikero - i use a dropweight and have to babysit the poly string when pulling (like Kevo posted earlier). it's a pain but necessary or kinks will happen. btw - u can call me guapo. ;)
