How do mixed exclusive ratings work?

My husband self rated last year as a 4.0 and played spring and then mixed with me on a 7.0 team (I was a 3.0).

This year we both got bumped up a half a level and are playing at 8.0. He no longer plays spring and isn't planning on ever playing again. (He does mixed with me because we like playing together but he has no other desire to play USTA again.)

How long does his rating stand as is? I' m not sure how the mixed exclusive rating thing works.

If he got a "C" rating from his Spring play last year, that rating is supposed to be good for 3 years (or 2 for seniors). So I believe if he doesn't play Spring/Adult anymore and plays just Mixed, he'd get an "M" rating from just his Mixed play in 3 years.
