How do you find a team to join?

Hey guys,

I've been playing tennis around a year now and I've steadily gotten better as time has gone by. In the last month my game has taken a huge step forward and I think I'm ready for a little more competeive play. I really want to join a league but I'm not really sure how you go about finding a team.

I'm performing at, I'd guess, about a 3.5 level but I can't say for sure as I don't really play in USTA tournaments (they are too expensive). How do I go about finding and joining a team? It seems like you just have to know people, which being new to this town I don't really know anybody :(

If anybody in austin tx is looking to fill a slot on their team msg me!!!!

I'm sure there's plenty of tennis in Austin - you just have to find it.

Joining the USTA and entering a few tournaments is a good way to meet other players (and determine your proper level of play). It's not really that expensive. You'd spend less on tournament play than you would a new pair of shoes.

But, if you don't want to go that route you could join a club (but that would probably cost even more).

Several of the public courts around here have groups of players that show up at certain times and play. There might be places like that in your area too. Just drive around on a nice Saturday or Sunday afternoon or evening, and see what you can find. Go to public parks that have multiple courts.

You could also use the search feature here and look for AUSTIN and see what you get.

I got into tennis after graduating from HS and the way I did it was going on the USTA website and looked for tennis in my community. It gave me the contact for the Coordinator in my area and she told me about courts, programs and teams I could join and start playing. Like Geezer said, just drive around and if you see ppl playing, ask them if they have days when ppl meet and play. They might be part of a club or team and can help you out.
