How do you know when poly goes dead?

Forgive me if this has already been described but how do you know when poly goes dead? If the mains are poly and you see a fair amount movement with them does that mean they are dead? I bought a Head Microgel Extreme Pro with Blue Gear 1.28 (M)/Cyberflash 1.25 (C) strung at 57#'s. I have never used poly before so I am wondering should I cut them out and string?

Thanks

1. When shots that used to stay in are now going long with the same swing. Can you say "Trampoline"?
2. When the strings start to move on your racket. Poly almost never moves until it is dead.
3. You don't hear that sweet sound from the strings anymore when you hit one in the sweetspot.

When your strings move like crazy, and when your racket turns into a rocket. But if you can't tell, it shouldn't matter at all.

Why hybrid 2 polys?

Blue Gear/CF combo is poly/poly, whick defeats the purpose of hybriding. Try poly mains with natugal gut crosses. It stays alive for weeks...

What about if normal swings start to go into the net? Could that be dead strings or did someone put a curse on me? I was up 4-0 and then he came backto win 4-6. Nothing changed but my strokes were going into the net, even the soft stuff and slices.

you could just be tighting up because you were psychologically nervous that you had the lead. It happens all the time, you could not be consciously aware of it. Sometimes its just you and not always the equipment.

thanks guys! *sigh* time to cut my M2s :'( no wonder my aeropro has turned into a rocket launcher.
..... however it has been good for my backhand xD

I've decided to cut out the polys and restrung the Extreme Pro with Ashaway Crossfire II 18g. I've strung the mains @ 48# and the crosses @ 53#. I'll see how this combo works this weekend. Thanks for your responses.

Poly does not break but it dies so fast. I don't think people realize how fast it goes down..usually in 6-8 hours. This is why I don't see the point in buying poly strings personally. If I was on the tour and had a ton of sticks, I could see using poly for the extra spin...but you have to be real careful..when poly dies it can kill your arm AND game.

your polys actually stop moving after you use them for a while? and they become stiffer?

now that i have some time using a full poly stringjob, i notice that the strings are not sliding back to their positions as they used to when they were newer. But the stringbed feels very stiff and its really hurting my elbow and wrist.

It's not that they become stiff, but exactly opposite, they become loose and start vibrating a lot. That's what really hurts your arm.

Just get a new stringjob.
