How does Adidas affort it?

You know how Adidas gives the 6 month warranty for the adidas barricade 4? I mean for serious tennis players most of them will wear it out and get a free pair in 6 months. Now, how does Adidas affort to do this for all barricade 4s? Thats almost like a 2-for-1 deal.

It's not as expensive as you think for them to mass produce a shoe. Mass production being key here.

You'd find the take-up rate on this offer is much lower than you think, even if you hear of many people on boards like this doing it. Even if it's 10%, they make *much* more than 10% on a pair of shoes!

I wear out the cushioning before I ever wear holes in the sole or toe area. Consequently the shoes still look fine but you feel like you are playing your bare feet. Consequently the warranties offered by Adidas and others is essentially useless to me.

I wear adidas and I never wear them out in six months. So they make their money on me. Although since I don't wear through them as fast I'm a model behind so I pick them up when the stores are clearing the out (I'm currently on my second pair of Barricade III's, before those I was wearing the A3 Forefoots after the Accerlates came out)

I wear barricades and make sure they last over 6 mths by alternating my 3 pairs of shoes its hard enough to claim on broken n codes let alone wear on shoe soles!

adidas probably still makes money even when someone uses the warranty and gets 2 for 1. either thta or they break even. I'm thinking the cost of the shoe to make isn't that much. And as someone said, esp because its mass produced.

you get what they send you, which is the same shoe and same size, but it might be a different color. you don't choose, they do.

nike is a bit different...they sometimes send you vouchers if they don't have the shoe in stock anymore, and you can buy w/e you want off niketown w/ it.

So I guess its only costs around US$ 12 to make 1 pair of Baricade IV.

That sounds pretty accurate to me. The company I work for sells on of our security devices for US$ 70.00. Our cost- $1.12.

Well, even if you send your worn out pair back, you still need to buy a new pair to play in right? Unless you want to play in your socks.

So they take a mininal cost hit while still managing to sell another pair of shoes to you. Plus thier 6 month guarrantee may act as an incentive to keep you buying thier shoes instead of going to another company after thier pair wears out.

The consumer takes a larger hit in terms of time costs in terms of getting the replacements, buying the shoe (at a high mark up), and paying for pastage back to the manufacturer.

I rotate my shoes also. I just can't stand the feel of new shoes during a match. I don't take advantage of the 6 month warranty...If I wore the same shoes everyday, I am sure I would wear them out - I play all hard courts and play everyday. Still, I consider the shoes a bargain...

They've done it for some time now. In the early 90's it was the Response that had the six-month warranty, and I swear 90% of the juniors in Florida wore them. We always had one pair on our feet and one pair in the mail. Took about a month to get them back, which was as long as a new pair would last.

Their no-BS policy with those shoes made me a lifelong Adidas customer. Literally every pair of tennis shoes and running shoes I've purchased in the past 10 years has been from Adidas.

I would say it's even cheaper now to make shoes as all the manufacturers keep moving production to locations with cheaper and cheaper labor. So if it cost $5 to make the Edberg Signature shoe in the early '90's, it probably only costs $3 to $4 to make the Barricade IV's now.

From what I understand, adidas will send you new pairs as long as you have a receipt that isn't 6 month old. my friend has a pair that was about 2 years old but had a recent receipt.. boom new shoes
