How far down does Berdych now rank amongst the players of this era

Offcource Federer got better after 2003 ... He also got better in 2006 does this mean that he wasnt in peak form in 2005 ?
Got ya, just a misunderstanding. You are using TT vocabulary and meaning.

So you are claiming that Roddick played the best tennis of his career in 2003 and then fell off, not that other players (specifically Federer) started playing better (or maybe I'm not understanding the unique TT usage of the word "peak").

If someone is capable of being number 1 he is not in peak form ?

This "peak" word has to be the most confusing and most irritating word used in tennis. Some people use it to define a player's absolute best tennis displayed, others refer to the period in which they consistently deliver at the highest level - not necessarily the same thing.

I'm going to go watch some "peak Busta". Thanks :)

no, he was losing to every one of those top players in Masters - he didn't even win a single one of them. He was also stopped by Mantilla in Rome 03.

Peak federer does not necessarily win every tournament vs them, but he does win a considerable % of them.

Do you how insulting it is to call a year 2003 :1 win, 2 R4s and 1 round 1 in slams, 1 YEC win ,no masters

as peak compared to :

2004 : 3 wins, 1 R3 in slams, 1 YEC, 3 masters
2005 : 2 wins, 2 semis in slams, YEC final, 4 masters
2006 : 3 wins, 1 final in slams, YEC win, 4 masters
2007 : 3 wins, 1 final in slams, YEC win, 2 masters

FYI, peak federer went 18-0 vs top 10 in 2004. ( undefeated)
He was 9-5 vs top 10 in 2003 (4-5 before the YEC).

Do you see the difference ?

The main difference is that he was 1-3 against Nalbandian in 2003 and 1-0 in 2004. In 2004 he lost to Hrbaty, Costa, Kuerten, Berdych, Henman and Nadal, neither was top 10...

Berdych and Roddick look so much alike in the ranking history. Obviously Andy achieved the higher rank for a while, but for the meat of their career, they look so similar.

I'm not sure what you mean. Roddick finished #1 in 2003, spent most of 2004 at #2, which is where he finished the year, spent most of 2005 at #3, which is where he finished the year, spent 9 weeks at #3 and 5 weeks at #4 in 2006, and spent 14 weeks at #3 and 8 weeks at #4 in 2007. Berdych's career-high rank was #4 for 2 weeks in 2015, with him finishing the year ranked #6.

he lost 17 times in 2003 compared to 6 times in 2004. Do you want me to list all of those 17 losses ?

in peak form, he'd have beaten nalbandian in atleast one of those 2 - AO or USO.

even removing nalbandian in 03, federer loses to agassi in AO 03.
USO 03 is a tossup b/w fed and roddick.

You are like a wall, there is really no reason to continue

Right, they look nothing alike. Not sure what I was thinking. Couldn't find 2 more dissimilar players.

so saying federer lost 17 times in 2003 compared to 6 times is being a wall ?

saying :

is being a wall.

ok, cool story bro.

You are one of the very few ( if there are any more) who thinks federer was at his peak in 2003.

Right, they look nothing alike. Not sure what I was thinking. Couldn't find 2 more dissimilar players.

Obviously, they're not completely dissimilar, but, as the stats show, Roddick spent 9+ weeks at #3 or higher in five different years while Berdych's career best was 2 weeks at #4 in 1 year.

Among the players born in the 1980s, it's clear that Berdych is behind:

1. Federer
2. Nadal
3. Djokovic
4. Murray
5. Hewitt
6. Wawrinka
7. Safin
8. Roddick
9. Ferrero
10. Del Potro
11. Cilic
12. Nalbandian

It's debatable whether he is behind, or ahead of, the following:

- Ferrer
- Soderling
- Tsonga
- Davydenko

So, he could be ranked between 13th and 17th in his generation, I guess.

Personally I have him 16th. He's slightly ahead of Tsonga, objectively, although the latter was a bigger threat to the big guns.

It annoys me to hear how overrated he is by some commentators. Funniest of all was Jimmy ****ing Arias who called him the best player outside the big 4 and that he dominates everyone but the big 4. At this point how far down would you rank him in terms of best players of his era. I would rank him behind:

Federer
Nadal
Djokovic
Murray
Hewitt
Wawrinka
Roddick
Del Potro
Nalbanian
Cilic- slam title, 2 slam finals, 1 recent Masters title
Davyenko
Tsonga- both have 1 slam final, Tsonga has 2 Masters though, and Tsonga's best is just better
Soderling- 2 slam finals, an both in epic fashion.
Ferrer- this is the only one I have some doubts about but was more consistent, similar peak achievements

Berdych is 15th best of his era IMO
I would put at number 43!
