The 'other' Aussie, but the only one among the younger Aussie cohort (De Minaur/Kyrgios/Kokkinakis) to win a big title, gave Djokovic a run for his money in Melbourne last year, and finally pulled off the elusive victory in New York.

A few posters were predicting majors for this lanky big server a few years ago, and although he's not yet broken the top 20, he has a big game and a lot of fight. One of his coaches is Xavier Malisse, who himself cracked the top 20 and reached a semi in Wimbledon. He's only made it to the 4th round at a major once so far, but his previous record did not hold him back in Canada.

Can he use his good form from the latter half of the season to kick off his 2025 campaign with bang?

He is ranked way outside top 16. So by r3 he can get someone like draper right? Without seeing draw I would say r3. Because top 16 are very strong.

Yes, the draw matters a lot, but I think he can beat anyone outside the top 8, and trouble a few top 8 players.
Yes he can but he will be underdog. The guys between 09 to 16 are also good players. Eg. Rune/Tsitsipas/ADM/Dimitrov/Draper?

Its not easy. He lost to Tiafoe in USOpen.

I think he can still outlast Draper from a fitness perspective, he can overpower Dimitrov, and is potentially more consistent than Rune. Against De Minaur, it would be a toss-up.

But avoiding Tsitsipas, and to a less extent Hurkacz, would be helpful.

It’s going to be very interesting to see how Hurkacz starts the year for sure. Some very weird and out of character moments from him in 2024 and then the horrible knee injury. Hopefully 2025 resets to the Hubi as we originally knew him.

Yes, a resurgent Hubi would be good news.

In general, there are a few good storylines heading into the Australian next year. Sinner is defending, it's still Nole's stomping ground, and Alcaraz could be in either half of the draw. Then you have a bunch of players from Fritz down to Machac, who are starting to make some moves.

Popyrin, playing on home soil, is among them.

I don't like servebots that much. Hubi last 2 years was like a bot..

The Hurkacz serve just might be my favorite shot in tennis these days:

Couldn’t agree more. Should be very interesting.

After he beat Djokovic.... No easy feat at the USO.

He could beat Rune easily. Would challenge the other names too. This year alone he's beaten:
Rublev x2
Dimitrov
Hurkacz
Djokovic
Medvedev
Shelton
Korda

Not to be discounted.

A Djokovic in zombie phase.

Yes if popyrin meet Djokovic in again ao, he can lose in qf or something instead of r3.

Zombie phase?

And yes I agree, Popyrin won't go that deep at the AO, I actually voted 4R in the poll so not even the QF as you said. But credit where credit is deserved. He beat Novak at the USO. Handing Novak his earliest loss there in 18 years... you can't downplay that.

I just did.

Lol. Out of curiosity, when did it stop mattering when people beat Djokovic at slams then? Since he's in the "zombie phase"?
Probably at usopen 2024.

He is same age as Roger In 2018 who lost go millman , surprise surprise another Australian.

But at least fed was playing OK at that time. Djokovic was playing dirt poor. It's a shock he made r3 , that is the comment made by the goat himself.

Novak had just won the Olympic Gold medal 3 weeks before USO24...? And he was now in zombie phase losing to Popyrin? What a ludicrous thing to say lol.

He "suddenly" entered zombie phase after beating Alcaraz and others to win the one thing that eluded his entire career?

Do you hear yourself?

I hear myself and I am dead serious.

You don't try to force your thoughts on the rest.

Novak couldn't give less of a crap about a slam. Any slam. After he won Olympics.

So why hasn't Novak retired then? Lol. If he doesn't care about slams now?

Just to feed your narrative that a loss to Popyrin at a slam means nothing?

We all know Novak is still fighting. He's not "a zombie" as you claim. Everyone but you knows that. I don't even think you believe that. :)

Who said he doesn't care about slams. He didn't care about THAT particular slam. Just go away.

We will see which early round popyrin will win obnoxious dude.

Um. You. Literally 7 minutes ago.

"Novak couldn't give less of a crap about a slam. Any Slam".
Right after Olympics. Not 6 months off it. Nole wouldn't care if God came down and said nole play now.

Right after Olympics , he is the god and don't need to play even slams.

Now enough time has passed.

Oh yikes you really don't comprehend English do you? You asked me who said he doesn't care about slams.

It was you. Direct quote.

Can you not read your own posts now? Now you're mentioning Olympics and GOD? This is some next level insanity. No more arguing with you on this, goodbye.
