How good do you have to be to play in USTA?

Brett

Semi-Pro
As you all know, I'm now officially done with high school, and I'm guessing I'm a 3.0-3.5 player and I want to continue playing tennis for the rest of my life. I can't play in college because of my religion with not playing on Saturdays, so will I not be good enough to play in the USTA? Will it be a waste of time? I really hope not, because I would love to join.

I looked at the tournaments for the USTA in my state and they also seem to be so far away.

Also does anyone know a site where you can see where all the pros will be playing in little tournaments so you can go out and see them for little money to free attendance? Thanks.

Everyone's good enough. You might lose all the time, but at least you'll be playing. When you do tourneys a lot though, you'll get a lot better with all the practice again really good people. All the tourneys are far away in your state? That's weird, maybe you clicked the wrong section, go back and try that again or keep looking into the future for closer ones.

It doesn't matter the skill level, just have fun, you'll win more matches that way. Besides, you get better from playing better people..

Well for all the USTA tourneys I have ever seen, Saturday is a big day. I don't see how you can play in any USTA tourneys if you can't play Saturday.
Many tourneys have 3.0 divisions so yeah you are good enough although there is a fair amount of sandbagging that goes on but at least you are playing. I would look into leagues and ladders at private clubs and public parks. I could probably schedule matches everyday of the week around here if I had the time :D

You need to play in a USTA league, if there is one close to where you live. The leagues are divided by level, i.e. 3.0, 3.5, etc. Where I live the league matches are on Saturday, and most of the league teams would love to have a young guy on their team....

As mentioned USTA tournaments generally always play on Saturdays however if you can find a team to join league matches are played on all days of the week (evenings during the week and days on the weekends). If you start in league play you will be able to self rate and you should probably play a little with people at different levels to get an idea of what level you should self rate at. There are competitive leagues from 2.5 on up so go out and play and figure out where you belong.
