Imagine making your entire career off of the current iteration of the French Open which would hardly qualify as a 250 event in the 90s.

I was - and am - a big fan of 90's tennis, but .... whatever. Sure, dude.

It's kind of hilarious and amazing to read posts on here from people who look at things in this way:

- Form opinion or ideology
- Make everything fit that opinion
- Belittle, denigrate, demean anything that contradicts or opposes that opinion or ideology
- If necessary, simply lie or ignore

How many people are going to remember the 2020 French Open tournament? lol. I don't think i remember any of the matches. I remember certain local futures matches more than the 2020 FO.

I decided not to click on this thread because i knew it wouldn't be worth it and lo and behold, the comparisons conveniently leave Roland Garros out of the equation. I wonder why. 13:0 doesn't fit in with the OP's narrative. Frankly, I couldn't care less how Rafa compares to Sampras.

a more even spread across surfaces, something like below might have actually prompted a lot of posters to claim he is indeed better than sampras........evidently there is a downside to being unbelievably good on a single surface, will be branded a surface specialist no matter how many slams you win on other surfaces.........

roland garros - 8 titles
wimbledon - 2 titles
us open - 4 titles
aus open - 1 title
total - 15 slams

imo there is no definitive way to compare across generations........but if one believes slam count is the measure, then obviously big-3 have all surpassed not just pete but everyone else in history.........

go compete with people like Agassi and Connors for who deserves to be in the top 10 in the history of the sport - all of the big three are way out of Pete’s league

one of those ‘real’ surfaces is one they spend about 3 weeks of the year on

he was around the 1000th best player in the world on one of the primary two surfaces in modern tennis

and Nadal’s era has two other players with more GS wins than Pete!

glad Pete did well in an era when Thomas Johansson won a grand slam, and Rios reached #1
 
It's just too close to call right now, let's wait until Nadal wins another slam and we'll review this topic again.
