How I learned to love Iga Swiatek again

Anni.Angel

Semi-Pro
When I first seen Iga play I liked her. I enjoyed her winning her first Grand Slam. And I became a fan.
I was never into her game and never admired her shots as i admired Annett Kontaveit but I like her as a tennis player.

Later on she did some things that I didn't like and ended up hating her with passion.

These days I had to play a girl who didn't know how bad I hate Iga. Before the match she called me and said she is already at the court and asked if I could buy her a drink. I bought her a Gatorade and bottle of water as asked.
During the match she asked me how did I learn to hit winners like Iga.
I stayed polite, smiled and didn't say anything bad but that bothered me a bit. Then as the match progressed and the winners continued pouring they said more and more often that I hit like Iga.
I was thinking I brought her drinks and everything and she calls me Iga. I was mad but kept my cool.

Then the people on the other court said that as well. At this point I got mad and I started hitting harder to punish my opponent.
That was like gasoline on a fire. I ended up being called Iga by everyone.

Then I realised the lights in that place were quite bright and I should wear my cap. But I didn't want to because I knew that would make me resemble Iga even more.
In the end I had no choice and had to wear that, the lights were too bright.

Even worse the people said that before seeing me hit winners like that, they thought you could only hit that kind of shots only using PEDs.
Now I was the proof Iga is not using PEDs.

By the time the match was ending I realised people were actually complementing me, they didn't know I hate Iga. Their heart was in the right place.
I felt so stupid and so embarrassed. I was glad I smiled politely all the time and didn't let them know I hate Iga.

After all Iga is an amazing tennis player. I should be honoured if someone finds any similarities between me and her game.

As I got home, all my friends laughed out loud. I asked them if they think I play like Iga and they said yes.
Then I remembered they were always laughing when I was ranting about Iga. And I asked them if that was the reason and the answer was yes.

I might end up being called Iga and now I am fine with that. It was a bit of a shock, but hey, life is full of surprises.
I always loved Annett Kontaveit but nobody said I play like her. I hated Iga and everyone thinks I play like her.

I still don't think I play like Iga but everyone else keeps saying that.

I watched Iga's match against Alexandrova and rooted for Iga. I can learn to love Iga.

A friend of mine once told me, the people you hate the most resemble you the most. Seems to be true.

But I’m still not really a Iga fan, one big reason is the flap she does when it’s her opponent’s turn to hit. The way Tsitsipas did on a match point (he lost the point anyways).

I’m not a big fan of Tsitsipas either.

I like Rybakina or Sabalenka a lot more for female tennis players.

Yeah... you look like Anna Kournikova, just better, and play like Swiantek.. I use similar lines a lot.. They always please the opponent or partner. I try to avoid mixing it up though.

Say: You look like Sampras and play like Federer..
Don't say: You look like Sampras and play like Kournikova. Especially if you are trying to compliment a lady.

That is nice.

I am a Djokovic fan that plays like Nadal, yet i don't love Nadal.

Perhaps i lack more love in my life.

OK.

Valentine's day is over. Are you over Iga now?

"Even worse the people said that before seeing me hit winners like that, they thought you could only hit that kind of shots only using PEDs."
But Iga is not one of the most more powerful hitters on tour, and nowhere near the most powerful hitters, so I find it hard to believe they say that.

Wait, this thread is to be taken seriously?

Personally I think Iga has the personality of a boiled potato! She is so boring, I hate her game and can't even stand to see her face. Easily the worst #1 in tennis history! I hope something happens to her and she goes away!!! I think every player on the WTA tour is more entertaining to watch and has better personality than Igor!

Watching Swiatek play is like watching a player in a video game. No variations but constantly full power on both for and back hands. She is effective yes with an ugly style and for me not a joy to watch at all. She is way to close to the ball most of the time, especially on the backhand with looks awkward and I don't think she is able to hit simple slice.
Her style of play is one of the reason people (me) loose interest in tennis.
As a viewer I prefer different game style and variations to number of winning matches and titles.

In most sports if not all of them, the winning style is not the same as the fun style, rarely and once in a blue moon we can see the fun, entertaining style combined with the winning style and we get Federer or 2008 Barcelona but it doesn´t happen that often.

Yes. I'd like Jabeur with a brain.

Meh. I love watching her play. Kinda vanilla in on court personality, but still astonishing shots and point construction.

Indeed. One of the most boring players to watch in the sport. Doesn't mean it's not very effective.

There's nothing particularly pleasing, aesthetically, about her game outside of her movement. Her serve is mechanical and clunky, her forehand is very effective but an ugly shot to look at, and the backhand is just a very good two-handed backhand, but there are a lot of those in the women's game.

She's strictly a dominant baseliner. She has no net game to speak of, and she rarely varies her game with slices and drop shots.

Watching Muchova without the glass body or Jabeur with a bigger tennis IQ would be ideal.

Nope. Iga has an incredibly boring personality and the fact that she tries so hard to be like Nadal is such a turnoff. The fake humility doesn't help either.

Her constant gamesmanship like holding up her hand to delay the server, waving her arms at the net, repeatedly catching her ball toss, switching racquets on her opponents serve, etc are the worst of all.
