im a 4.0 player but im just wondering how many years does it take to become a 4.0 level player. It took me 2 years lol, yea i know very long >_<. How bout you guys?

It took me about 10 months since i started as like a 2.0 or 2.5 .
But i put in a lot of work ethic. I played the whole summer away and I took lessons and stuff so that probably helped as well.

It took me 3 years. I didn't really play much during the winter the first year. I highly doubt you guys are 4.0's after less than one year. You're probably 3.0's or low 3.5's.

Yeah, I agree. Are you guys playing 4.0 club leagues or tournament play? I play 4.5 club league and do ok. 4.0 tournaments is even more tough. Took me about 5yrs.

3 years of 6 days a week, 4-5 hours a day.
By then, I could go 3-4 rounds in A-Open tournaments, but NEVER win one.
I seriously doubt anyone under 18 can make 4.0 tournament level after less than FIVE full years of coached tennis. You are just not strong enough, just not quick enough, don't have the strategy in your head, haven't played nearly long enough to have the strokes, and certainly can't volley, overhead, halfvolley, in addition to consistent groundies, flat serves, topspin serves, twist serves, and placement to all 3 locations with each.

i don thtink you can becaume a 4.0 in less than 2 or 3 years. but still, i think you underrate your ntrp. you have said before that you have won multiple rounds in qualies of futures, and that alone makes you MUCH better than a 4.0. on the usta website it says that people who can be competiive on futures are lke 5.5s or 6.0's.

Not true. I've heard of kids being sectionally ranked after 2-3 years of play. Sectionally ranked top 20 is easily a 4.0 and probably more like a 4.5 or 5.0 depending on the age group.

i thnk any one can make it to any level in any amount of time, if they work hard at it that is. i just turned 17 and I started playing last year and i'm a some what a high 3.5. But i do get private lessons and i played at least 4-5 hours a day in the summer even after work. i also play about 2 hours almost every day after school. So to be honest who is to say how long it takes to get good. It's called effort and what you put in is what you get out.

3 years total. 2 years of competetive play, about 8 months of those years was spent training with a private coach. The rest of the time was spent jus practicing with my gf, shes a 4.5-5.0 now and im about a mid 4.5.

Guys, keep in mind that its not about how you it the ball but how you play the point. At 8 month of playing, I was Teeing off on shots in practice session, I was no where 4.0 though..... I had the strokes for sure, what I lacked was shot selection, patience, and confidence . Also, at that time, I thought I was a 4.5 lol.

I think I'm a low 4.0 right now. I'm nationally ranked 14 year old. I took me 3-4 years. It's almost impossible to become a 4.0 in anything less than 2.5 years.

Agreed. Even if you have world class coaching for like a year, you still need experience playing matches and learning strategy.

Not true. It depends on your natural talent and the age you start at. I wouldn't be surprised if it took some really gifted players a year or so to become 4.0.

Yes, very true. This guy that practices at the same courts i do jus took up tennis about 1 1/2 years ago and he is competing in the adult 4.5 league and winning. Hes 22 or 23 and a little over 6ft i think, hes got a beastly serve, great spin, and really nice placement. Iv never played him, but a friend of mine played him wen he entered an adult tourny in the finals. My friend beat him, but the guy took a set off him and the other 2 sets wer very close. His serve really is scary, has to be tippin 120mph on avg easily...

It took me negative 4 years to become a 4.0. Yeah, that's how good I am.
Oh, you're good alright. Good at making us laugh. You made Bahamas Goombay Punch come out my nose - and I wasn't even DRINKING Bahamas Goombay Punch! [Note: It went down Grape Fanta and came out Bahamas Goombay Punch. Does this mean I have a bleeding ulcer?] Thanks for the giggles, keep up the good work. Later Slater - JD
