How long does a pro use a racket?

Most people I know buy new rackets every three or four years but
how long does a pro use a racket?

It's very different. Some people get a new batch before every major pretty much. Others, I think like Delpo, uses them for as long as possible, until they're just worn down.

Let's just say a pro is given 100 racquets and he rotates it with 6 at every tourney...it'll last him/her at least 15 years during his/her pro career and the racquets won't be really that dead!

I remember hearing I believe it was Roddick got a new bag full of sticks every tourney he played, or something completely ridiculous like that. Just from the number of his frames made via prostock, I remember seeing at least 600 as a serial number.

I always wondered what made him able to crank the serve marginally harder than everyone. It wasn't his size. Must have been the fresh sticks haha

Speed of service, the way he hammers it down a fraction of a second faster than your average pro.

they only use it for 3-4 weeks and it is trashed. they have exact same specs kept by stringers like p1 or their manufacturer and just ask for the new batch of rackets shipped to them at exact same specs. since they are paid to use the rackets,,,it is of course Free.

Do you have any evidence to support this?

Former Swedish top 10 player Thomas Johansson said he used about 50 frames each season. They felt a frame was about to be replaced when the stringing started to feel "mushy" to fast.

Also, another interesting point I learned from Wilson:

For their pros that use H19/H22 frames, as soon as the bumpers are worn down they are sent new frames, since Wilson doesn't manufacture replacement bumpers for their prostock frames. Their players are sent new sticks if the bumpers get chewed up enough.

^interesting. Also keep in mind that pros barely grind on there grommets or frame at all. If you ever have the opportunity to hold a pros frame,it will look fairly new.
One of my coaches is working w a player, and his frame is a PJ with an old prince w/ o ports underneath 2014 PJ. and he has been using since beginning of the year and it looks brand new.

Except, you know, Del Potro, Blake, and others that have used sticks with old pj's for a long time.

Depends on the player. I've had quite a few prostocks. Some are in great condition, others not so much. Pros vary how hard they are on their frames. Roddick was notorious for thrashing his frames in practice (according to a video from Nate interview from P1 I believe.)

The pros have deals to change them like socks. As a recreational player, I am tired of seeking out, ordering, and replacing grommets. You just play your game and replace the racquet when it breaks.

I remember someone saying that Federer gets 12 new racquets for each season, if I recall correctly.
To elaborate, he gets 12 racquets for each surface season: spring hardcourts, clay, grass, summer hardcourts, and indoor. So 60 per year. This was mentioned in an interview with Priority One (not sure which, pretty sure it's on Youtube somewhere).

Most top tour players get their racquets ship to them from their custom racquet sponsored department along with their new racquet bag(s). They ship their current bags and racquets to their home unless they won the previous tournament; then they might carry it with them to the next tournament.

Check out that RG stringer video from the RG site. IIRC they say Nadal uses about 70 rackets per year.

- for marketing purposes he should be using new sticks not scratch up ones. Fair to say he got new rackets every tourney he enters. And 6 per tourney is not a crazy number.

- you see his PJs changes often, especially he uses the RG pj this year, and every 2 years they change the PJ anyway

- Nadal doesn't break rackets on the court but with the high tension poly I assume some may just crack with the hard hitting and hard ground contact he makes on saving balls.

-Lots of player throw their rackets to the crowd after winning a match. It tells that they do not need to worry about keeping a certain frame because they will an exact duplicate.

That's not the case for every pro. There are some who's sticks look beat in a few weeks. It depends on the playing style.
