How long was your longest set?

Played yesterday.

1st took an hour and a half.

Managed to play another 45 minutes before the lights switched off (it was at night). Didn't even finish the second.

Calories burned: 1700 (my opponent was wearing a Fitbit).

Today I'm tired!

We actually didn't finish what would have been my longest set - we had a single game go over 40 minutes. My opponent won the game, but conceded the match as he was physically drained. He was wearing a heart rate monitor, and had hit 170 bpm numerous times during the game, and he was a big 60+ year old guy.

Longest sets I've played have been about 1 hour. Generally takes a 7-5 or 7-6 score with several long deuce games. I don't tend to play long points so a long set requires lots of points.

Obnoxiously long match yesterday ... 7-5; 7-6 win took 2hours 45minutes. A lot because opponents insisted on walking at snails pace to fetch a ball between points ... and they were young! ... also lots of long deuce games as my partner was having an un-fun "off" day, especially on ROS
Did not enjoy it, even with the W.

Or a lot of strategy conferences with your partner

I'm not sure how long my longest "set" was, but I know my longest match was 3 hours (doubles).

To make things worse, this was tournament style, and this was the second match of the day. We played a visiting 4.5 pair from Nor Cal in the finals. There was a big line call dispute that was settled by me drilling a flat backhand into the chest of "mr. surgeon". He said "No sorry?", I said "No."

I don't know about individual set but I've played a 3.5 hour match. Last year was a struggle. I wasn't playing a lot and not practicing at all with a new baby so all of my matches and sets were close. The longest one I remember was a 5-7, 7-6, 13-15 affair that lasted 3.5 hours. Needless to say I felt that one the next day.

Just guessing here that my longest set is about an hour. I usually play fast - I don't take much time on changeovers, and don't take much time between points. And I play an aggressive style (I don't have much shot tolerance). So even an hour set is very rare for me, it would require an opponent taking his time, plus a 7-6 score or similar, plus many deuces, plus unusually (for me) long points.

Summer of 1991 in a local town tourney, I played and won a match 7-6 6-7 7-6 against a strong retriever. My serve and volley was not working at all, and I had to play a baseline game on brand new, lovely but very slow and high bouncing hardcourts. I had a nasty case of the forehand yips, so my forehand was a constant chip and charge when I had the opportunity, which was rare, as he hit deep (not hard, but consistently deep). It was a gut win. It had to be well over 3 hours, likely 3.5 hours, in 95 degree heat. Unfortunately, 10 minutes later I had to play a current University of Illinois D1 singles player and got crushed 3 and 1. Irony is my serve and volley was great in the second match, I was simply overmatched (in retrospect I have no idea how I got 3 and 1 in that match, I played out of my mind).

I don't know the exact time but I know it went over an hour. I have played a match that was two sets and a tie break that went almost 2.5 hours.

Every game to deuce over and over and over and over, etc....

Longest set ever was played over 3 days .... Rain delay, had to resume mid set.

Seriously though, I am to fat and old to be playing long sets. Lots of serve and volley (even if it is not working). Big swings on returns and no long points ... ever.

If I ever play a long set (over an hour), it will be because my opponents choses to make me suffer ... and even then it would be hard to do.
