Teaching only a two-handed backhand has got to be one of the biggest failures in tennis. I understand that there are strengths and weaknesses with both, but basically eliminating 50% of the options for whole generations seems like a huge error.
Can only think of one in atp - shapo , so it’s more or less the same on both sides of the fence
Carla Suárez Navarro, #46
Tatjana Maria , #85
Conny Perrin, #192
Mayo Hibi, #211
If you go all the way up to 1000 ranking, you might find a dozen.
you don’t know Tsitsipas?
and these two are in the top 20, I imagine there are more young guys in the top 1000 with a one hander
those two girls that have been named in this thread are basically nobodies
Mayo Hibi has already been named and the other 3 are well above 25.
how did you find it though?

How do you teach a 5 year-old girl a 1HBH? Is she supposed to use a 5-gram racket?Teaching only a two-handed backhand has got to be one of the biggest failures in tennis. Maybe a 5 year-old female godzilla, but not a human.
And re-learning a basic shot wastes a lot of time and is reliant on luck that the new shot will be as good or better. There is no guarantee when you start a new shot from scratch so late. Most 1hbh players learn it when they’re older
That’s ok
They still learn it though

Of course not, don't be ridiculous. However, when a kid is strong enough, they don't introduce the OHBH. Most you'll see is the chip/slice 2 hander that morphs into a 1 hander. They are basically saying "its not worth even trying to teach it since you started with a 2 hander". That's close minded. At the very least, introducing the OHBH when appropriate would strengthen that chip/slice game. How do you teach a 5 year-old girl a 1HBH? Is she supposed to use a 5-gram racket?

Diane Parry, #277, has just 17 years old.
I forget the name of the young british player, she has a good one hander. I think she also had a spat with Ostapenko.

Agree you can hit harder with one hand. That's about degrees of freedom.I don’t get this
you don’t need strenght for a one-hander like everyone thinks
you play your FH with a one hand too so why should the backhand side be different?
in fact, you can get a bigger maximum speed with a one hander than a two hander
Yeah, the kiddie junior world is awash with 1HBHers because it's so easy for a child to swing with a racket in the BH side...I don’t get this

When I switched to a 2HBH - due to an injury - it took me a while to get a hang of it. It's like being asked to change your hand-writing.Think of it as a new shot
U aint relearning things really
