How many more consecutive losses to Novak before going away?

How many more times do you guys think Nadal can stand losing versus Djokovic? If he loses in in the final of Roland Garros (aka Nadal's playground) in may he will be absolutely destroyed. I'm not saying this is going to happen but hypothetically, how many more lost finals before Nadal either retires or just burns out mentally and slips down the rankings?

nasal's speech should have been very unsettling for a nadfan. he sounded as if he was about to give up.

You would have to think that after the Murray tag team, ala professional wrestling and not coming away with the win, this will be a bitter pill to swallow. This may in fact have been the one that does him in. What is funny, after all the running and no signs of problems the knee is in no way an excuse to use. Nads had all things go his way as can be expected.....

20 times j/k.

It doesn't matter because Nadal already has big titles and the gazillionth loss doesn't sting as much. Look at Roddick and Fed.

If Djokovic beats Nadal in the next 7 slams let's say, it doesn't change the fact that Nadal is/was a great player. Just a great player being constantly beaten by a even greater player(should Novak overtake Rafa in the slam count) with whom he doesn't match up very well.

He would actually be better off tanking to let a player that matches up better to Djokovic try to beat him a few times so Djokovic's confidence falls a little before he tries to play him again.

Nadal's not going anywhere, even if Djokovic continues to beat him (and I believe that he will continue.) The same way that Federer isn't going anywhere even with his losses to Nadal.

This just goes to show even more why H2H is not a major consideration in being the GOAT. And not just that, it's also why H2H can't be a major consideration on how good one's career is.

There's always going to be someone that has their number. And ironically it seems like Roger has Novaks, Novak has Rafaels, and Rafael has Roger. I mean I look at Andy Roddick, and he's not a bad player, he's been number 1, he's won a slam, but Federer figured out his game, and how to beat him almost everytime.

I don't think there's a single game out there, that matches up well with everyone else's game, it just doesn't exist.

If he loses at RG, Nadal might do a Borg and call it quits. Its pretty clear that he doesnt really enjoy playing and is already showing signs of burnout.

I don't think Nadal will quit like Bjorg, because he has a different personality. Bjorg had a huge ego. If anyone, it would have been Federer, who could have quit because of losses, but he's motivated enough to continue and he's doing really well, even if not racking up more trophies.

You also have to consider this is a different era altogether. Prize money has gone up significantly, as has sponsorship money. The tour is more global, which means more opportunity to earn while your career is alive. Even IF Nadal loses to Djoko in every final from here on, the finalist makes way more than the retired guy! More importantly, endorsements will die out post-retirement (except perhaps in Federer's case, who appeal is more longlasting). Nadal doesn't seem that much of an emotional fool to walk away when he's still #2, and can take down any other player in sight.

I must have been watching a different speech. He sounded very positive to me.

Rafa is not a quitter. Plus he is getting closer to Joker. I don't know where you guys are getting all this negativity from.

Yep. After Wimby and USO, he sounded lost. Determined to win, but lost. This time he sounded positive. He said he matched Djoko and he was right - he did. The match could have gone any way.

Agreed. One backhand pass down the line away from kissing the trophy.

I agree.. For once I saw Nadal actually take it to Magneto, and damn near beat him,and if not for one bh miss,he would have. It makes me laugh that some trolls think winning this match was a walk in the park for Cvac, even though it took him close to 6 hours to do it. It is also on Nadal's worst surface and on Faker's best. Seems like the gap is closing, imo.

Nadal will never go away because of losses to Djokovic.

BBC news sports section seemed to think that either could have won this match and I feel the same. I really don't know what all the fuss is about. I would say Djoko and Nadal are abut equal. Considering Nadal said he was taking a month of for practice prior to this match, already sent warnings that he is not up to the level he should be so what was he doing in the finals? Something that must have surprised a lot of people. This match has done him the world of good. He can take home what he has achieved and build on it. Why must everyone think he will never beat Djoko again? I think opponents will be just as scared of him as ever. Nadal has lost nothing

Federer is 1-4 against Djokovic 2.0, including 2 blown MPs on serve.

I can't see how this means Fed "has his number".

Exactly. You have spoken rightly.

Wow, there are currently 3 of these threads going. What is wrong with people. Rafa should quit because he can beat every player on the planet, accept one. In that case everyone should just call it a day, because they are all in the same boat. Shouldn't Murray quit, I mean he's never been able to win one, much less 10, and when he does make a final, he plays so bad, I'm not sure he'd win the womens. I guess I'm just fueling the fire by posting in these threads, but people should have some perspective, if one person happens to take down Djoker, then guess who is the favorite to win.

Exactly, there were 126 other guys in the tournament, they just didn't get a picture at the end with a massive check and title of #2 in the world.

These photos are very interesting because if you look at their faces and how hollow eyed and exhausted they look in the last one you can see the slaughter which took place and how hard they are going play from now on!
