How many of us use an insert?

Sole Ultra's for me, they last and are comfortable. I the past I have used Super Feet orange a good product, but keep cracking the heel cup. For me those products along with Yonex shoes have helped alleviate knee pain and leg fatigue. The Super Feet greens did not supply enough cushion for me.

So the active gave up on you after a while? BTW how did that manifest? B/c I have about 2-3 pairs and haven't notice any give yet...

It just tore up too quickly for my needs.

Tore up? I was expecting something like it has lost its padding abilities etc.

They are always wider in my case. For whatever reason the non sport last much longer for this player.

Probably a total of 3 months before I punch a hole in the little toe. That may increase now that I use Asics Wide at times too. I typically rotate between 3 and 4 pairs at a time to allow them to air out.

Well than I can see how the margins of the Dr. Scholl's active inserts might get chewed, if you step on them in your wider shoes...I almost never had a problem with a tennis shoe being too narrow (so I don't destroy the inserts either) + I always buy the shoes with sole warranty. A good store like TW (and front I heard even Nike/Asics) would also replace shoes for you under manufacturer defect, say in case of broken eyelets and such (or if you get injured b/c of new shoes).

Anyhow I've ordered the Total Max Support version for both me and significant other, to see for ourselves...

To me the Spenco full length orthotic insole beats Dr Scholl’s easily and is better than any insole that I have tried.

I've only had Superfeet hunting insoles to compare but these are thicker than stock insoles and comparable with the hunting Superfeet I had. Maybe a little thinner because there is no wool lining.

my shoes feel SOLID now. much more cushioning and support. my feet are happy with the superfeet carbon. recommended. The Superfeet size D fit my ASICS Gel Resolution 8 in size 8.5 perfectly without modification. Makes my shoes even better. the stock insoles suck compared to the Superfeet

The Superfeet are not noticeable in terms of heft. I was doing agility training yesterday just fine, if not better.

I use a custom foam insert. I'm going to be trying a graphite insert soon as I wear through the foam ones in less than 6 months. It is much more comfortable than the standard flimsy thing in the shoes.

You make them yourself or you buy them?

Not sure why the prescribed ones are always hard.

I am using cheap $7.99 ones from Walmart and they feel great.
The difference is noticeable immediately.

First custom orthotics I saw were clear, hard as glass, no way they would give or compress. Ultimate control

I use DonJoy Arch Rival. The recessed area under the 1st metatarsal allows the plantar and achilles to remain totally relaxed and prevents/relieves plantar fasciitis for me.

You guys wouldn't believe it, but these insoles are quite incredible. They're $4,99 at Walmart. I've used them in both of my pairs of Nike Vapor Cage 4's and they feel amazing.

They are excellent - great cushioning along with firm arch support and a deep heel cup. I think people confuse it with the 'sport' model which is cheaper and doesn't offer the support.
Superfeet are great but don't give near the cushion of the Dr scholl's active/running - but the Superfeet are a lot lighter (because they don't have much cushion). I've been using the Active/Running for years and they are great.

edit: @mikeler - are these the ones you used? Can't imagine tearing these up in a couple months, they are quite durable.

Exactly! But I'm not sure if they are called running now, as I've tried a couple of the new models (not called Active) and eventually found "Active" on Amazon.
They don't tear appart, even if playing daily, but I do replace them after one year anyhow, in my tennis shoes, b/c they lose some cushioning.

I use Superfeet in all my athletic shoes.

I used to favor the Black but now I find the Carbon is best all around.

If you want more contour and thickness, look at the Blue then the Green. I also have a couple of pair of the Blue, which is what I used to use in my Shimano cycling boots.

fwiw, "arch support" does not mean "a big hump under the medial center of your foot—it means rigidity (think, steel bar) under that area so your PF doesn't get over-stressed from flexion. Take a good shoe and try to bend it in half. It shoud flex behind the ball of the foot and not in the geometric center of the shoe—that's "arch support."
