How many of you rotate multiple shoes?

Todays rehashed topic: Shoe rotation!

So the last time I shopped at a local tennis store, I spent a couple hours and tried on a bunch of shoes and got an idea of what sizes and models work best for me (I did buy a pair of shoes there before I left, I have a conscience). When those wore out, I bought a new pair of a different model (K-Swiss Hypercourt Express) in that list online. I looked into the idea of rotating multiple shoes and decided to buy another pair to get them to last longer.

Now, for whatever stupid reason, I decided to buy a pair of Asics Solution Speed 2's instead of another pair of K-Swiss'. Now I am questioning whether I made the right decision, and I'm thinking about returning them. I have a pair of Superfeet Blues that probably need replacing soon, but they fit decently well in the Kswiss shoes.

So my question to you guys is, how many of you rotate shoes? And are they all the same model? If they are different, is it distracting at all? What would you do?

As always, thanks for reading.

You said it!:D

I've pretty much always just bought whatever shoe I like the looks of the best, never had a problem with them fitting badly. I don't know how you guys can be so picky!

I used to rotate them, when I wore LBs and sometimes I'd wear Vapors, but since I switched to the Speed Solution 3s, I only wear that one shoe. I'd love to get another pair though, but maybe when the price comes down, can't stomach paying 120 for a pair of shoes.

I need to liquidate soon:

Vapor 9.5: 3 pairs
Air Max Cage: 5 pairs
Lunar ballistic: 4 pairs

Scattered pairs include: vapor 6, CB 2.3, zoom breathe cage, adizero feather ii, and a few that escape me

I typically go through a pair in 3 months. I buy barricades 2015/16, go through them and have them replaced, put them aside, buy another pair and have it replaced as well. This leaves me with 2 pairs of different colors for the winter season when I play less. Wash and repeat next season. You can find a pair of barricades on a good day for $80. add shipping for replacement ( 7.95 usps) comes down to around $45 for a pair of premium shoes when you include warranty replacements.

Rotate several prs. Never wear-thru so most lose their midsole cushioning. Still have a usable pr of Nike Air Animos.

Same issue here. The traction will eventually go, but long after the midsole cushioning is compressed

I rotate between about 15 different pairs of shoes. You read that right, 15. And they are almost all different models, with a couple that are just different colors. Not kidding.

Rotate between Asics Gel Res 5, Diadora Speed Star, Vapor 9.5. Never wear the soles through, always feel the cushioning goes way before they are worn out.

May I ask, how many racquets will you rotate between?

I rotate between LBs, Lotto Raptor IVs, and Babolat Jets. All for different situations/colorways.

I currently rotate four different pairs. I prefer to play matches in Yonex shoes but I use NB and Prince warranty shoes for a lot of my practice work.

Also, I sweat so much that it is nice being able to dry shoes out thoroughly after playing before wearing them again.

I mean why would rotating shoes make the soles last longer? All it seems like you're doing is wearing different pairs of shoes to get used to, and wearing the shoes out at the same pace.

You are just wearing them less. Less time on court equates to long outsole durability.

I mean you get the same amount of court time either way, so why would it matter? I'm just confused by this whole thing, what advantage is there to switching shoes, especially to different models, instead of just wearing them till they are done then wearing a new pair.

For me, the added value is that I can extend the life of certain colorways that I enjoy. For instance, I have a pair of vapors from 2013 (US Open) that I love. I won a ton of matches in them. If I used them exclusively, I would tear through the outsole in 3 weeks as the rubber would become more malleable from consistent wear/usage. Because i have 10-12 other pairs in the rotation, they see the court less often and last longer.

Some players have Match Day shoes without a warranty. Use shoes with a warranty like Match Day Pumps for practice. Others use the same shoe daily,

Ah I see, that makes sense.

Rotate at least 2 pair of various brands at any time. I think that it makes them wear better and are more comfortable and have more time to air out. It may be all in my head though.

I rotate through 2 styles: 3 pairs of Lotto Raptors and 3 pairs of Diadora Speed Stars, as I am on the court 4-6 hours 5-6 days per week. I also rotate racquets: 3 Yonex Si98's and
2 Yonex 330 Duel G's plus occasionally use a Yonex YY8500 13.5 ounce Green anodized aluminum from 1974 or a Wilson 14.5 ounce Advantage woodie. Just seems I have always liked variety.

Seriously, I feel like a filthy casual. Burning through one shoe at a time (for the most part)
Yeah that's how I am. I am only rotating now because I dislike my blind buy gel res and am trying to keep my ballistecs alive a few more weeks before replacing them.

I used to rotate between 3 pairs, different colors of the same shoes wearing my favorites the least as gino mentioned, to let them last the longest.

This year I bought my first pair of shoes with the extended warrantee. I'm wearing those exclusively but not sure if they'll wear down enough to make a claim.

On a side note, I was wondering why anyone would buy 2 pair of warrantee shoes… but I see some of you wear out shoes in 3 months, and Mareqnyc only buys a second pair after a first pair is replaced, which is the smart way to do it. I have 4 months to go with only minimal wear so far. Too much doubles I guess.

I have 2 pairs of Zoom Cage 2, 5 pairs of Vapors including one clay pair. Rotation is great, all of them still look pretty fresh despite some having been purchased in late '14.

Adidas Barricade 2015: 3 pairs (all 3 (almost done - sole holes) have been rotated last 12 months along with additional 2 pairs that served well
Adidas Barricade 2015 Boost: 2 pairs (one pair brand new, the other used for about 4 months )in rotation with he above) and pretty much done

Btw, by rotating shoes with a 6 mos warranty, do you still burn through the soles in less than 6 mos?

I play in a beat-up old pair of running shoes with several hundred miles on them. Need some new tennies.

One pair. When they wear out, I buy new ones. Rotating, fashion statement, and God help me, "colorways," are the province of womenfolk where I come from.

This is definitely the case. The other argument I've heard is that letting the shoes dry out between playing can extend the life, though this might have been more the case with leather shoes than the fully synthetic shoes common today.

Currently 4 pair of different color Barricade '15. Kind of by accident as the price came down here on TW and I was afraid the '16 version would fit differently...am about to launch on a pair of the '16's though. For the sweat 'n dry factor alone I always have at least two pair to rotate.

Due to profuse sweating like a stuck hog I have to rotate shoes when I play more than one match per day.

I keep two pairs of shoes on hand at all times.

When one gets "soaked" I put them out in the sun to dry and wear the others.

But it requires a large investment upfront

Not really. Just buy them over time, when they go on sale. Never paid over $90 for a pair of Vapor 9.5, got my Cages in the $67 range all from well-known shops like TW and M*.

Yup, this. I always carry one pair of Vapors and one pair of Cages, and Adidas slides.

one durable shoes for training and one lighter shoes for matches.
Usually durable shoes are under warranty so I don't rotate durable shoes. When I claim warranty and get voucher, I buy lighter shoes like vapor.

Because that would be really boring.

I mean, do you wear the same shirt all the time until it wears out before breaking out a new shirt?

I usually have a couple pairs I can rotate, just depends on the amount of tennis i'm playing. Runners often rotate because it takes 24-48 hours for the midsole to completely return to form after use. Would be the same, maybe shorter, for a tennis shoe. For most people it's not the outsole that is the issue but the compressed midsole that causes us to get another pair.

As others noted, I have a pair for most drills, etc and another for matches. I look for deals, my local shop has a BOGO in the beginning of the year and I had some good luck at the outlet picking up some FO '15 Vapor's for $35 or so each and also when TW has their sales....

I have 5 pairs I'm currently going through this season. Head Sprint Pro, Vapors 9.5, Barricade Club, Babolat Propulse BPM and recently got Asics Solution Speed 3 (all on sale). Rotate them all. If I had one pair I would probably wear it out in a couple of months since I'm a toe dragger and move my feet a lot scrambling all over. Out of them all, the vapors wear out fastest, without a doubt. Most comfortable for me are the Asics which I recently received as a gift (lovely wifey) and Head Sprint Pro which I always purchase every season because they feel so good on the feet.

Which colorway did you buy in the Head shoe? Found them dirt cheap but the colors are fit for Bozo.

I have the black and lime one. I looked and they were not on sale this season. The Red White and Blue were. But those look uggo, to be honest. Comfortable shoe though.
