How many pairs of tennis shoes do you own?

Long ago, when I was a kid, I wore a single pair of tennis shoes until I killed them. Now I usually have two pairs in rotation, and I'm only playing a couple times a week. Even with warranty shoes, you'll need another pair when you've sent one in for replacement. As society becomes wealthier, most of us tend to accumulate more and more gear.

So what's the average? How many pairs of tennis shoes do you commonly own and use at any given time?

As most of us get older its harder to wear-through the soles of these shoes. 5 pr of shoes, really wear just two pair.

I've currently got 2 pairs of Vapor IV's that I use in rotation. Really dont see the need for me personally to have more than that at a time.

3 shoe rotation, 8 shoes new still in box

There is a certain TW member that has 50+ shoes:)

LOL. Aren't most people with 50+ pairs collectors?

I'm really only interested in shoes that people actually wear for tennis, or plan on wearing, even if they have a clay court or grass pair they only wear once in a while.

Of those 8 pairs still in boxes, did you get them because you're worried about the shoes being discontinued, or do you wear through them quickly?

Mostly got them because of the price (on close out) and they were shoes I liked. I go through about 5 pairs a year. The guy who has 50 has a 13 shoe rotation as I recall.

Most places state that you have to wear through the midsole, but they accept shoes that have clearly worn through the outsole. Midsole material is not very durable, as it is there for cushioning, so it wouldn't be hard to poke through it if they actually required that. Look at the Barricade IV dead thread to see a shoe that clearly has worn through the outsole.

I own about 30 pairs, with about 10 in rotation currently.

Oh, and about 10 pairs of new running shoes in the box.

When playing a tournament I will rotate 2-3 pairs of new shoes. If just practicing I will rotate at least 4 pair as a I usually practice 2X a day wearing a different pair each time and never 2 days in a row.

I have three pairs, one for training and two for matches. I have to rotate them mostly because they get really wet because of the sweat.

Oh and one pair of running shoes.

That's impressive. Where do you keep them all? Storage would be a problem for me.
Actually, it's a bit of a problem for me, too. One of my closets is like floor to ceiling with shoe boxes, and just about every nook and cranny in my other closets have shoe boxes stuffed into them. :-o LOL

yeah i saw that thread, and those things were trashed. i don't know how durable those shoes are, but that would probably take me about almost a year to do. but if i make my school team and play everyday i will probably make that investment and hope that i could wear them out fast enough.

man you guys own a lot of shoes.
I only have two shoes

Adidas Barracks - Tennis / Sunny Day at University

Nike Shocks Black - Rainy Day at University

Thanks to this thread, when I found some sweet deal on the men's Nike Max Breathe Free II at a Nike outlet store today, I decided to buy all the 5 pairs they had to 'stock up' like many of you are doing.

I also found some even sweeter deal on the women's Nike Max Breathe 3 at the same store, so I also 'stocked up' 4 pairs for my daughter, and my wife also got 2 pairs for herself.

I owned a number of cheaper tennis shoes in the past, and they're alright and they do the job, but nothing to crow about. But these Nike shoes feel SO nice that I'm stoked to be able to stock up on them.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone who the difference between the Nike Max Breathe Free II and the Nike Max Breathe 3 women's shoes? I can't really tell any big difference.

Yeah, the above is the ONLY reason i'd ever stock up, if I found a good shoe at a great price. I'm currently rotating two pairs, which is plenty for me. One competition shoe, one training shoe.

Personally, I'll probably never seen the need for a $100 US pair of shoes again, especially given how much I love my Prince *whatever model* that I bought from the Liquidation section on TW for $40. As a shoe-destroyer (i'm tall, not light and pretty quick), I'll be shopping from that liquidation page forever for shoes I think :)

I assume you're not referring to the one in Milpitas, are you?

No, it's not Milpitas. It's in AZ. I got a Labor Day special 20% off final purchase total coupon in the mail today so that's why I visited the store for a shopping spree. I wonder if anybody else get that coupon in the mail?

OMG you guys are so so rich. Willing to spend $500 on 5 shoes hahaha. I'm a college student working part time and the most I can spend on a shoe is $40. I saw a Fila Torneo CC with that deep ferrari red color and I was so awed with it. And it's on sale for only $20. Since I already have a sunny day shoe and a rainy day shoe , I'm thinking of making that fila as a casual university shoe.

I don't think most people who stock up shoes on this thread here would pay full price for the shoes. Otherwise it doesn't make sense to stock up, unless you're very serious about your game, and rich, too.

The 5 pairs of men's shoes I stocked up on cost me only $40 each (at $110 retail), and the 6 pairs of women's shoes for my wife and daughter were $32 each (also at $110 retail).

Arizona Mills? Can you tell me the the price without the 20% discount for the BFIIs?

edit: doh didn't read post above for pricing. If you can tell me if it AZ Mills or not that would make me seriously consider a trip there. :)

I wear through a pair then get a new pair. I try to experiment and buy a different pair each time. Right now my favorite shoes are the Nike Breathe Free II.

I have over 20 pair of Oscillates (new in box). This is the old version before they were re-released.

You must really love the Oscillates!:D Do they fit your feet perfectly?

Right at the moment, I'm wearing BFIIs, but if I get in better shape, I'll be looking for a match-day shoe. How are the Oscillates in terms of toe-box width. I have a normal or narrow heel, but I can't stand shoes that pinch off my big and little toes.

Yes, this is AZ Mills. The price I mentioned was after the 20% discount coupon they sent me in the mail, so you can do the math.

I went back today to exchange some shirts for a larger size and noticed they only had 1 pair of BFII men size 8.5 left on the odds/ends racks, that's all. But they have plenty of Air Vapor 4 and Air Zoom Revive and another (forgot the name) on the regular racks.

The funny thing is that when I exchanged the shirts, they basically did a return and rang me up for the new ones. Then they gave me an in-store 20% off 1 item in the next 2 hour coupon. They call it a 'Return Reward'. This is the first time in my life I've ever had a store 'rewarding' me for returning stuff. Well, their trick worked and I ended up spending more money with them on that coupon.

I have 4 pairs. 2 bfIIs, I barricade 3, 1 breathe free 3. The breathe 3 and barricades are worn out on the bottom. But this is my second pair of both of them (free second pair).

i have 1 pair do you recomend i get another they are new baricade IV's but are giving me blisters on the heels and hurting the bottom of my big toe lol Any ideas on how to stop this??

Whats the purpose of rotating shoes?

Is it better for your body or something? I usually just buy a pair and wear them constantly until they are dead/cushioning is gone. I don't rotate...

-You always have broken in shoes.

-You don't have "dead" shoes since they get tossed from the rotation.

-You have practice shoes and gameday shoes. My practice shoes generally are heavier and more stable like- BIIIs, Resovle plus Mids and gameday shoes lighter and faster- speedzones, Vapors, ect.

-You can match your shoes and clothes if you want ( I don't do this but there are people who do).

I use two pairs of shoes, one heavy duty one (Barricade 4) for practices and a performance shoe for matches (Breathe Free II).
