How many slam titles for Federer in 2008?

I have said it in 2006 and 2007, so I'll say it again in 2008. I think this is the year Federer wins the Grand Slam. Will I be wrong? Probably unless one of Nadal's legs falls off...My heart says 4 slams, but my head says 2-3. We'll see.

I would like to see him win a grand slam,it would be a historical moment for tennis.Don't how much chance does he have at the FO with Nadal around though but we'll see.

I completely agree. I hope Fed wins the FO but i don't think he will. he very probably could push Rafa to 5 sets, though.

One major, one runner up. I see Roger averaging about a major a year for the next five years. But I could be completely off. He's still easily the best player, but he'll start feeling the heat.

8 is Federer's lucky number, he's been on the verge of a GS two years running, I think that next year will be his best year, all 4 slams, as well as Monte Carlo and Rome, probably not Paris though, but if he does the Monte Carlo Rome double he might skip Basel and play it. That will complete his set of major titles.

haha... choice #4 in the poll is crazy "really off year, only 1 of 4". 99.9% of players never win a slam in their careers and Roger's having an off year if he wins only one slam?...

feds finally gonna go away with all 4. Nadal might be injured for a while, and fed's game is simply stunning when he practices a lot, something he's def. gonna do before the french

I'm in the same boat. I thought this year was the year but apparently not...

federer is edging closer to beating nadal at the RG, especially seeing the way he crushed him in the tmc semi. fed's finally realized he cant feed those lame short balls to his opponents, especially nadal. if he hadn't lost to nalbandian twice and then gonzalez, he might not be playing the way he is right now. a wake up call for him. as far as other slams go, no one else has really shown they can even get to 3 or 4 sets and be up at a major against federer much less last 5 sets.

i dont know how some people can hate certain players. thats such a personal feeling, and you sure as hell don't know these people personally. just because your a fan of someone's rival doesn't mean you have to hate them.

non fed fans have to realize he's closer to winning the grand slam than anyone since laver and overall he has been more dominant than anyone. instead of enjoying experiencing and witnessing such amazing feats and accomplishments you have to feel ill will towards him? what makes you better than federer or nadal or roddick? perhaps the haters need to realize that you are the one who is done with tennis and need to stop projecting on people on the TV screen or bashing people online who you only know as the few letters and avatar that represent them.

I suspect he will win 2 or 3 slams next year. I think The Grand Slam is just too tough for Federer with Nadal present. Much as people say they would like Federer to win The Grand Slam (myself included), you have to be realistic. Federer is unlikely to win The Grand Slam. I see it as more possible Federer might win the French Open but not complete The Grand Slam if Federer sacrificed time elsewhere to concentrate on the clay court season, but it is still a big ask. I doubt Federer will risk making these sacrifices at all though because he might fear becoming frustrated like Lendl at Wimbledon who gave up playing the French Open in an attempt to win Wimbledon, but still never quite made it. Vote with your head not your heart.

As long as he keeps his true form ala Shanghai (except for Gonzales) then he will win probably 3, and hopefully he can catch the Frenchie (doubtful, but then again... Nadal plagued by injuries).

1 or 2. If he takes the AO. I will go for 2 or 3. If he loses the A0, it'll be 1 or 2.

Federer is desperate for the olympic gold.

2000 sydney Olympics: loses the bronze medal match and meets Mirka
2004 Athens: shock 2nd round loss to Berdych
2008 Olympics.......????
2012 Olympics at WImbledon..??? -Feds dreaming about this one too.

Prediction: French Open 2008, David Ferrer beats Rafael Nadal in the semifinal in 4 sets and Federer clinches the Roland Garros trouphy by beating Ferrer in the final.

I think probably 3 and an Olympic Gold, but I think he'll get the French in 2008 and won't play Nadal in the final.

he'll get 2 majors, the year end championship tournament, year end #1, plus an Olympic gold medal, and trolls will be saying he had an "off" year or that he is "done".....

Surely you are not serious. Ferrer beating nadal in french open, i have to laugh at that. Ferrer is not good on clay at all. actually ferrer totally sucks on clay.

This is too funny. How is Federer closer to beating Nadal on clay? We had exactly the same result last year. Roger demolished Nadal at the MC semi and then, deja vu, another loss to Nadal at RG.

The fact of the matter is that indoor surfaces have little in common with clay surfaces. The ball stays lower, one can overpower an opponent with the serve; Roger can hit his backhand consistently with the ball staying low and slice as often as he wants. All these things are taken away from him on clay. All those break points that Nadal would have been converted on clay and most of Federer's aces would not have been made on clay. To boot, Roger doesn't return nearly as well on clay because of the huge bounce.

Federer has never been further from beating Nadal on clay than he is now. He has never relied on his serve to win points more than he does now. He is not winning the French.

I don't know about that. He did win Bastad this year which is clay, lost to Federer in both 1/8 finals in Hamburg and Monte carlo and he holds two match winning streak against Nadal. With the current form he is in he might just pull it off;) You never know.

The Australian Open and French Open will be the toughest, I don't see anybody beating him at Wimbledon or Flushing Meadows easily.

Based on this year and not on the last tournament and expecting that Djokovic can win one Slam on hardcourts in 2008, I voted for 2. I think every year will be harder for Federer from now. He was closer to win 2 than 4 Slams this year and basically the competition will be tougher on every surface.

I didn´t know RG is played on indoor carpet, I can´t really see the argument there. Hamburg was meaningless for RG this year and it was played on clay only one week before RG so let alone an indoor carpet event played 6 months before RG. It´s not that Fed pushed Nadal so hard in the RG final this year neither.

Right that expectation based on what? That he couldnt get a set from a sluggish Federer in the U.S Open final, after struggling through his joke draw to even be in that final; and that he couldnt even win a single set at the Tennis Masters Cup, losing in straight sets to all of Ferrer, Gasquet, and Nadal?

There is alot of talk from some of Djokovic becoming #2 but I think he will have a harder time even staying #3 and repeating his year of this year. More pressure, a bigger bullseye from his opponents, more awareness of his game and improvements, and questionible fitness to last he long haul of a long event if he doesnt get the kind of soft draw he got at the U.S Open.

Yeah there absolutely no correlation between the TMC on CARPET and even Hamburg for that matter. If Fed beats him on Monte Carlo THEN there's a small possiblity of him being a threat to beating Nadal at RG. RG is RG. Nadal is unbeaten there.

I think he'll do the Golden slam next year, and become only the second player in history to do it after Steffi Graff. Next year will be the best year of his career, then it'll be downhill after that.

Nah. Federer at 27 won't have the energy that a teenager Steffi had. I predict that Fed will win 2 slams, maybe 3 if he gets lucky, but he will not win the Olympic Gold medal and will not win all 4 slams either, just 2 or 3 slams at best...

You know, if Fed manages to win the FO and NOT do a CYGS, or not win Wimby+USO, it will be the biggest storm any tennis msg board has ever seen!

Well, I think Djokovic can win a Slam on hardcourts next year and I think he has a shot at Wimbledon too, not saying that he will win a Slam next year but sure he has a chance. His improvement was huge this year and I think he just needs to be a bit more experienced against top players in the big events. He was nervous in his first Slam final and didn´t convert set points in the first 2 sets, then it was pretty much over. Being more experienced I think he will have a better chance in the next years. As for the indoor season I think he was phisically and mentally exhausted. I can´t believe some people don´t give him the credit he deserves just because he sucked in the last month. He is the clear no.3 and I think he will have a great career on non-clay surfaces.

I'm convinced he'll do it, I think he'll be at the absoloute peak of his abilities next year and repeat Steffi Graff's feat.

Very much depends on the draw. If he faces Nalbandian, Canas early in the Australian Open he's vulnerable.

Max 2 for me (I predict he won't reach the Final at the FO).

Beating - Nalbandian in AO final.

Wishful thinking, What happened the last time he played Canas, that's right Federer destroyed him, the same would happen again at AO. As for Nalbandian, with his ranking right now, the earliest he could meet Federer is the last 16 and again Federer will crush him.

I think he'll win AO and Wimbledon.
Outside chance of FO.

I reckon he'll win OG, but he'll be so tired come USO that someone will "get lucky".
