How many slams for someone like 2007-2010 Djokovic in 2017-2020

I feel like people underrate 2018 USO just for the sake of it.
Three or four players probably at least around the 2008 Djokovic level.
2008 4th round 5 setter with Robredo and QF Roddick who choked with 2 consecutive DFs serving for the 4th set should somehow speak highly of 2008 Novak... Talk about romanticizing the past.
In Djokovic's draw? Come on. Del Potro was arguably Roddick level at best, rest were worse.

How do you compare 2008 Novak to 2018 Novak, Thiem, Nadal and Delpo.
Better than 2018 Delpo definitely. I'd say better than 2018 Nadal too.

2018 Novak was better, but not sure about Thiem. The latter wasn't up against anyone on the level of 2008 Fed.

Not in his half. I'm thinking Thiem, Nadal, Delpo and 2018 Djokovic.
The Thiemdal match is quite overrated. Either way they killed each other so Djokovic was spared extra difficulty, like Fred in AO 04 after Safin spent himself ousting Roddick and Agassi. Can't see del Slicero as all that, he reached the final easily but faced no one even on 2008 USO Roddick level and got exposed quite routinely in the final.

The way I see it:

2017 AO - no
2017 RG - no
2017 W - outside chance, probably no
2017 USO - 30% chance, probably finds a way to choke

2018 AO - yes
2018 RG - probably no
2018 W - no
2018 USO - probably no, Nadal - Thiem QF level is out of his reach, Delpo is questionable, Djokovic played a smart final on cruise control, never in real danger.

2019 AO - no
2019 RG - probably no, but this one is interesting, as there would be no gruelling MC and Madrid.
2019 W - no
2019 USO - slim chance. I think 2007 >~ 2008 > 2009 Djokovic at USO. Can't see him beat both Medvedev and Nadal.

2020 AO - no
2020 RG - no
2020 W - /
2020 USO - generous 50/50. 2010 was on the verge of losing the 1st round, 2020 USO sucked.

2 is the best bet IMO.
2020 USO also no. 2010 USO Djokovic sucked big time throughout the whole tournament. He should have lost to Troicki in the 1 round, then he was struggling against Petzschner a round later, in the SF he got pas through a below par, out of form, choking Federer, and was going into the final that year probably feeling like a pig before the Christmas holidays. No chance that Djokovic is beating nor Zverev, nor Thiem nor Careno Busta. No way...

Can't believe people on here actually believe 2010 Djokovic will lose to either Thiem or Zverev. That's just bullocks!
IMO he'd have in the bag: 2018 AO and 2020 USO, no questions there.
RG 2018 is 50/50 and I reckon he's got a 66.66667% chance of winning USO 2017.
So all in all, it's 2-4 slams.

I can agree with Delpo accounting for the match up. With Nadal it's not a clear cut. Thiem fought till the very end. It should count for something compared to Give-up-ovic.

Maybe because 2010 USO Djokovic was just awful.

Do you really believe Thiem could give a better fight to in-form Fedr than Djokovic did?

Perhaps, but then again, I don't think Thiem reaches a 5th set against 2008 Federer.

And 2008 Djokovic didn't really have Nadal's lows either. Who gets bageled by Thiem on a HC?

I don't see it as overrated. They killed each other off, true, but 2008 Djoko could've landed in Thiem's/Nadal's quarter.

Bringing Fedr into the equation is not a great idea. We're talking about potential 2018 winner, not 2008. I was both joking and being serious about 2008 Novak being on 2008 Roddick level. I mean, if not for the choke, there's always a chance Djoko retires, no? Or self destructs as seen in SF 4th set.

Well, 2008 Djoko kinda didn't reach the 4th. He checked out after that bad game at 5-5 in the 3rd.

Bagel or not, Thiem came out all guns blazing.

Like Thiem somehow didn't choke badly against Nadal?
Nadal weathered the storm in the 2nd. From that point it was anyone's game. Thiem did well to take it to the 5th. He kinda choked at the very end, it was not that bad. Much better than giving up after 2 hours of play.

Late 2010 Djokovic was already at his peak and so, in principle, he would be the favorite to win the US Open 2017, US Open 2018 and US Open 2019.

Late 2010 Djokovic is evidently a lock to win the US Open 2020.

2007-2009 Djokovic could win the US Open 2020, but no chance at the 2017, 2018 and 2019 editions.

2008 Djokovic could also win the AO 2019 IMO. 2008 Djokovic was already a beast at the AO and 2019 Djokovic was pushed to 5 by Thiem.

I guess. But again, Thiem was up against a worse opponent than 2008 Djokovic was.

2010 Djokovic was pretty much a lock to win the US Open 2020.
Tennis gods have been cruel not to bless us (you) with 2010 USO Djokovic more frequently.

He wins AO 2018 and USO 2020 as well as having shots at USO 2017, Wimbledon 2017 and FO2018. Funny to think he would loose against Zverev - not happening. FO 2018 Nadal isn’t 2008 Nadal, not saying 2008 Djokovic would definitely win, but he is and always was a matchup issue for Nadal, we could already see this in phases in 2008. A way older past prime Nadal could have serious problems.

If we assume we take the old big three out of 2017-2020 then 2007-2010 Djokovic cleans.

Djokovic was better in USO 11/12/15/18 than 08. 07/09/10/13 similar to it maybe some a bit better or a bit worse.

I'd take 2013 Wawrinka win over
2008 Roddick. In fact, 1R - QF he was better by a good margin in 2013. Hard to say for SF. Too bad he imploded in the final like a nobody.
Well, 2008 Roddick was still better than old man Youzhny.

2007-08 Djokovic would have won a bunch of titles in the inflation era. And then since he wouldn’t have his confidence and motivation affected by losses to Fedal he probably doesn’t slump in 2009-10

Don't think Nadal was anything special in 2017 USO, he was just the only top player in semi good form. In 2007 USO Novak went toe-to-toe with peak Fed who was in excellent form that tourney.

Novak was going through serve yips in 2009/2010 which is why I'm not sure he'd win a slam regardless of the field/draw, he was just too vulnerable.
Djokovic really should've won the USO in 2007. Too bad he had to face a more experienced opponent in the final and he choked all the set points he had. At least the year after that he got his revenge.
