how much do tennis players make?

i was wondering how much tennis players make. specifically men's players.

i was thinking there are 4 brackets of players that at least a few of us have heard of

1) elite household names: federer, roddick, agassi, nadal

2) big names: safin, hewitt etc.

3) top players, lesser known: nalbandian, lub, coria, henman

4) regular players: kiefer, grosjean, blake, haas

i was thinking this for pay (excluding investment income for someone like agassi)

1) $15-20 million +
2) $5-$10 million
3) $3-4 million
4) $1-$2 million (although i'm wondering if this is low)

BTW, i haven't checked the ATP money list from last year to check on what 3) and 4) guys make directly from prizes. category 1) and 2) are much more endorsement dependent (and i could have probably found out what forbes estimates these guys make).

thanks in advance!

Federer makes about 6 a year without endorsements. The money's not great in tennis without endorsements because although Sharapova only makes about 2 a year in prize money, she makes over 20 million in endorsements. BTW, how did you come up with 15-20 mill for prize money? This isn't the NBA you know.

it was all-in $$$$$.... i meant that some of the guys in category 4 might have won more in prize money than i have them down for total earnings.

for sure, i knew that prize money isn't great in tennis... hence, andy roddick's complaints that NBA scrubs make more than he does in prize money...

i looked up the forbes #'s myself, and here goes (somewhat up to date as it said nadal had skyrocketed to #2 in world).

roddick $10
agassi $26
federer $14
nadal $7
hewitt $10
sharapova $18 (i know she's not a man, but i thought it was interesting)

all millions of course,

2 years ago Agassi made 40 million USD, the year he was doing all those TV commercials eg razors. No wonder he doesn't want to quit.

The Forbes #'s above are correct, and sor a little more breakdown:
Federer made $6 in winnings, and $8 in endorsements.
Sharapova made $15 in endorsements alone.
Agassi's total earnings last year were more than double Federer(according to Bloomberg News, disagreeing a bit with Forbes).

Federer is only recently back with IMG, so his endorsements will presumably increase this year.
Fed has a total career prize money of $20, vs. Agassi's $40, and Sampras' record $43.

All numbers in millions, of course.

Correction...Agassi is close to $30 mil in prize money
