how much money do you spend on restringing?
cost of strings?
plus cost for labor to string a racquet?
cost in weeks
and months?
and how do are you able to afford it?

for me if i had to string my racquet once a week i could probably spend over 100 XD
thats just on two racquets i wish i was a millionaire XD
2 sets of strings $58
labor 2 two string racquets $30-40 XD

if you're spending that much on labor a week you should def buy a machine and do it yourself. You'll make the money back on it in a month or two. If you want to save money buy the stings you get in a reel. Usually buying in bulk will lower the price a little bit

i would but it seems very hard to string it consistantly if i were to do it myself
and good machines are in the $800

It's not hard to get consistent results, especially on your own racquet. You can get machines from $150 that give great consistent results. The cost goes up on minor increments from there as you add features.

It's crazy to spend $100 a week on stringing unless you just have money to burn. I spend $4 a racquet for string and a little of my time.

Do some forum searches. A little research should give you all the info you need.

per year...

using (klippermate) kevlar/syngut or polyburst/syngut + string savers I spend about $350/year just on strings.

$30 on replacement bumper guards

Probably spend another $70 on overgrips (wilson pro)

$200 on balls

$300 on sneakers (take advantage of 6mo warranty every time)

damn, so that's about $1G/year on just consumable items (not including indoor court time in winter, clothes, travel costs, leagues, lessons/books/subscriptions/etc..., ortho visits, tennis vacations, summer club costs, etc...)

I think I need to make a job out this to support my addiction :P

its just expensive XD
damn Tennis wish it was as cheap as basketball XD just need a ball lawl maybe ill buy a stringing machine and reels of string

Just thank the man upstairs it's not as expensive as golf. I just started playing tennis again after a 12 year layoff....it's nice to spend a few hundred bucks for a racquet, good shoes, and a league. If you can spend around 1k a year for tennis, that's a steal. I spent close to that for green fees on my last vacation?!?!?!

thank god for sponsorships and the opportunities I have been given in tennis as otherwise, all my sporting costs would be that much more. I never had to pay for my machine, in fact somebody paid me to take it away. I always get my string at least 20% off, sometimes more or free when players leave behind their reels rushing to the next challenger/tournament. also, if my pro who i'm good friends with knows any of the pros at other country clubs, I can get golf there for free. like I really can't say I good of a bargain I got out of tennis

strings at my local shop kind of expensive but labor are the followings

syn gut - 16 labor
poly - 19 labor
gut - 20 labor

for my bab tonic+ they charged me 54... or $10 on top of TW price but i needed strings so i went the convienent way and got charged the premium :(

My guy charges me 12 bucks labor regardless of string and has it ready for the same day in most cases. It hard for me to justify a stringer when an hour of my time is worth well more than 12 bucks.

what about $20-25 thats what they charge here for stringing labor :(
and on top of that... i heard from the forum that most ppl takes like 20-30 minutes per racquet once they get used to it

I tried to do the same math before I upgraded recently. I string while watching TV or some other activity, so I can't really count the hour as "lost time".

I think 30 minutes of time is pretty accurate if you don't have to set up the machine and you are concentrating. For me, its still not worth it.

If I broke strings every week and I had to pay 20-25 dollars plus a premium on strings, I would got get my own stringer.

The greatest thing about stringing yourself is consistency. Your racquets will play exactly the same every time. You can't guarantee that when you send it to a shop unless you are like me and know the person doing the job.

I pay $10 per racquet at the stringer. I generally order my own string. Been pretty pleased, but still think I'm going to buy my own stringer and start using reels. I average one racquet a week at the stringer. If I don't break strings in one week, usually the poly is toast.

I spent $3,000 this year thus far. (star 5)

Actually it's closer to $4,000 now. Just bought some more tools to go with our other machine. So now I have my own set of tools plus one for the other machine to have at tournaments. I just love the carrying case that comes with the Babolat tools. (although i still carry my old style babolat starting clamp because you cant beat it) It makes it so easy when traveling. They do cost around $300 for the entire set so kind of pricey for the home stringer.

Yikes.

3 sets of Luxilon ~ $40
I charge $10 to string, so if I charged myself... $30

My suggestion? Buy a stringer- I have a cheapo Klippermate (~ $150) and I get very nice results from it. It comes with very nice resources too- manuals, tools, and some starter string.

isn't that kind of overkill to buy the babolat tools? besides their starting clamp and the setting off tool, Babolat does not make the best of every other tool a stringer needs.

I also bought the klippermate...i string anywhere from 1-10 raquets a week on it. Its held up really well and I think its the best 140$ i've spent in a long time...the clamps it comes with are VERY good. People complain about the time stringing the raquets, but with the klipper my fastest time has been about 30 minutes which isnt too bad.

I bought my stringer a few years ago (SP Aria) and I've already made back twice what I paid for it (around $1600) stringing for the tennis complex here in town.

My biggest expenses are probably string (probably around $200-300 a year) and shoes (about one new pair of barricades a year). Other than that, not much other expense.

Thank god I'm not a string breaker. Though, it could get that way.

A stringing machine is definately worth the investment. So far, i've strung 5 frames on my SP swing.

5x13=65

SP swing: $229.99 (shipping included)
16 sets gamma syn gut: 54.84
GSS starting clamp: 44.80

Altogether, around 329 bucks.

I still have 12 sets of gamma left (did one of the 5 sticks with some poly, probably would cost 20 bucks for that one at the club) and a full reel of SP synthetic. I usually charge 13 dollars a stringjob. Thats 364 dollars back in money i'll made/saved. This is all costs being generous. Just by using up the stock of strings I got with my machine and bought separately, I will profit 40 dollars. Not bad.

EDIT: Also, sports authority charges 12 dollars labor if you bring your own strings and 20 bucks for their PSGD with free labor. Wilson sensation (i think either that or NXT tour, can't remember) is like 35 dollars! I think I saw some strings for 60 bucks!

It would cost me 15.50 for gamma synthetic gut.Plus, with my own machine, stringing is fun, I like working with my hands, and I have total control over it. I get my racquet back when I need it.

I don't break strings too often, but my strings on my RDX are close to breaking. I got them strung sometime during last season, like March/April. I think it was early April. My bro broke pro red code once in the first week of tryouts (he hits with not a lot of topspin, but loves the slice, and this was with old strings from previous owner), once with friend, and again with a friend. Just last week he broke another set of poly. he broke poly 4 times in 3 months! That's like 50-60 bucks. I'm a former freshman, gonna be a sophomore, so for the next 3 years, I think my machine will pay for itself.

I used to have my racquets strung with snythetic and then switched to poly when I broke those strings after a couple of hours. To get poly put in cost me 42 dollars. Now string my own racquets and save 20+ dollars a racquet.

Dude get a stringer. I also got a Swing and it's really easy to use. Seriously, it's not brain surgery.

Oh, and buy strings in bulk.

As it stands you're getting robbed.

I agree. My wife gave me an X-2 for Christmas last year and I have been stringing my own since then. It has saved me a ton of money. It is also good stress relief. I pop a beer, turn on the Tennis Channel, and string away.

Strings: depends on TW :D, right now 3.79 for PSGD.

Labor: $3 is i want my raquet back in about 1/2 hour, 2.75 if i dont mind how much it takes.

Stringing monthly cause i have never break a string, that's just $6.79 monthly.

Get a big smile on my face cause all the other people are spending a lot of money, PRICELESS :D
