How Often Do You Take Toilet Breaks?

I have never taken a toilet break during a match as an adult, I doubt I can remember my matches as a youth, I usually try and go right before and then I think I am sweating it out mostly.

What is with these pros taking a fake toilet break after the first set. Tsitsipas did it and got booed. He requested to take a second toilet break in third set but umpire would not permit it. It is getting ridiculous.

I'm not sure, I did just read Agassi's book Open and for his matches he drank an unbelievable amount of liquids the night before and the day of his match, maybe that explains needing 1 break.

Tsits carries his cellphone. His are not really toilet breaks, they are coaching phone conversations.
I heard from the ESPN commentators that Zverev accused him of that.

Slanderous. Zverev on the court has no way of knowing what Tsitsipas is doing off of the court.

Maybe players with UU should use Foley catheters stapped to leg bags.

The MTO's and bathroom breaks are probably appreciated by tournament owners because they allow fans to make purchases at concession stands.

Then they'll need toilet breaks too.
Thank Goodness for troughs!

If I have to get new balls for a full 3rd set I'm usually also going to bathroom to at least check my hydration and make myself lighter if nothing else.

Correct. Don't go to the toilet. Make the toilet come to you.

It is amazing how in this world when everything is going portable and mobile and on the cloud, we still have to go to a fixed toilet.
Thanks for the....................................................tip???

Toilet breaks used to be forbidden late in a timed match. Like, the last 15 minutes. There was an uproar, so the leagued returned to its previous position that they were merely frowned upon.

I think you shouldn’t prohibit it, even if some people will abuse it. Some people have urinary issues or other issues that are real.

if I know I might need a bathroom break for digestive reasons, I tell my opponents when we start that it may happen. Then they know I’m not gaming them.

I had pizza for lunch and curry and rice for dinner the night before a match. Had to go to the toilet several times during the match, not sure if it was food poisoning but I played like GOD after the 3rd visit and won my match in 3, probably 1kg lighter too(y)

If I have a morning match, I will absolutely need the restroom between sets. I never try to go between games tho.

figure 8 am match and I want to drink at least 64 ounces of water before hand so I’d basically have to wake up at 4 am to make sure I was good to go. Water is super Important for any kind of strenuous activity.

At 66.5 yrs I find that I must between 2.30 - 3 a.m. every morning. Hopefully at nearly 17 yrs old my cat does not leave me with a surprise between me and the toilet at that hour. It has happened on more than one occasion, once resulting in a bruised foot and the other time much cursing:) My current dogs, at 9 and 6 yrs, have not compromised my early morning ventures yet. I did have a nearly 17 yr old dog and a 13+yr old dog I had to be cautious about.

On the tennis courts as long as I don't drink too much coffee beforehand I am "usually" OK.

MELBOURNE (Reuters) - Denis Shapovalov had to literally 'hold on' to beat Jannik Sinner in a thrilling Australian Open win over the Italian talent on Tuesday, having been left fuming after he was denied a request to take a bathroom break before the deciding fifth set.

“What happens if I go?" Canadian Shapovalov asked German umpire Nico Helwerth at Margaret Court Arena.

"Do I get a fine? I don’t care!

I can only think of one time, and it was a small country club tournament and my men's partner started pouring Fireball shots into his (and my) beer while I was on court playing mixed. We had to play men's later and I had to take 2-3 pee breaks during that match.

I take one before every third set in singles as I usually need to get rid of the gallon of water I’ve drunk by then. Typically, my water bottle is empty by then and I refill it also, throw some ice water over my head to cool down and think about any adjustments I need to make for the third set. Unlike Tsitsipas (allegedly), I can come up with my own adjustments when I have some time to think about it without a coach texting me.

Pouring ice water over the head is supposed to increase performance according to some research studies on long-distance runners and bikers. Just doing that is reason enough to take a toilet break during a long match especially on hot days.

Sometimes, just holding serve to win is not enough.

Timed matches are just ridiculous anyway, I don't understand how you can deal with that.

As someone with a middle age prostate, I can attest that I have never taken a toilet break to pee in my life. in a round of golf I might need to pee once. And I drink a lot of fluid. And have to pee in the middle of the night quite often. But in a tennis match you are largely just keeping up with sweat losses so a lot less fluid should be running into your bladder.

Bowels on the other hand, I have had to break for once or twice. Spicy food the night before a match is rarely a great idea.

In the pros, toilet breaks and MTO's are highly abused. But they have higher stakes.

Almost 50% of matches - regardless of the score - for natural needs or refill the water can. Usually the opponent if perfectly fine with this ... but I'm not broadcasted on any channel !

Have played over a hundred matches over the past year (best of three sets). Never once had to take a toilet break.

I have to take it after 2 sets, 99 % of the time. It really does help to reset your engines and at least put on a dry shirt and go #1. Try it, you will like it. I also had times when i had bad diarrehea and had to go after 1 set
