Are they buying themselves and carrying in their bags for each tournaments? For instance, Novak using Babolat gut and alu power, is official tournament stringer company already have that strings or Novak give them at the beginning of tournament? If like that, is he buying from full price? Because when I make approximate calculations string expenses going huge. Just wanted to know how this handled

They or their agents or coaches get the strings.

Some (or most of them, I dont really knoe) buy them out of their pocket.

Isner, I know, bought his Red Code strings he used since college.

I think this is part of the package they pay to customizing companies.
If I'm not mistaken, Federer used natural gut (1.30) from Babolat throughout his career.

I believe he use Babolat at the beginning of his career. Then when Wilson got Babolat to make gut for them, he used Wilson packaged Babolat gut, with later packaging referred to as white packaging; compared to the red packaging which is made by Luxilon. He also used 1.25mm, not 1.30mm

No he used 1.30, even in his ps85. where did you get 1.25 from?

No they dont. Novak & Murray use 1.25mm.

Even if I'm wrong about Fed, I'm not about Novak & Murray since I have my records; and I've probably strung more racquets for Murray over my tournament stringing career than any other player.

You will know better than me whether that poster is legit. Fed has always promoted 1.30mm gauge gut (with 1.25 alu rough) whereas djoko promoted 1.25mm. I thought that information on pros string gauge was usually correct (unlike the "racquet of choice" stuff). Even when they were pretending that Rafa used pro hurricane tour, they always gave the 1.35mm gauge of his actual string at that time (duralast), for example

I was going by memory, but I'm happy to concede if I'm wrong about Fed. If your referring to RYJU, then he is legit, and I would take his word as gospel.

Well if RYJU's word is gospel then yes you were wrong on Fed. It was someone else who brought in Novak and Murray- yes they use 1.25, I was only talking about Federer.

Ok, good to know I had the wrong info.
From the stringing instruction stickers or whatever you call it floating around the web. It states Fed as 1.30 and djoko/murray 1.25.
Thx for the info.

Fed was 1.30mm at Laver cup ‘22. As always, you’re 100% correct on all other aspects, given, you know, you’ve strung for them multiple times.

He could well have been correct from 12/13 years ago. Players have been known to experiment on occasion.

I think they make enough money to cover string costs. Especially Novak. You think he's worrying about string costs while eating caviar in his chauffeur driven limousine rolls royce? And paying millions of dollars per year to his staff that coach, cook, counsel, clean for him?

He wasn't man, read the link I gave. It's no big deal I only got into it because once these things start on this forum suddenly they become "facts" that never stop, especially if a pro stringer person said it.

A lot of them will if not sponsored, have preferred player deals - give them wholesale/discount prices bc theyre usually buying multiple/bulk reels a year (ie: kirshbaum preferred player deals) etc...bc its good exposure for the company to have players using their string and makes sense if they don't have to pay the player or give them free stuff - but yeah its all taxable for the players as an expense of their business so the players can absolutely pay for it themselves - its not a huge part of their expense compared to travel, accom, team etc...
