How to increase swing weight. Does any one know differnt methods of increasing swing weight? I prefer not making it head heavier but more head lighter. Im getting a Yonex RDS002 standard and i think the swing weight is kinda low. i want to increase the swing weight to around 315-330. Any suggestions?

how do you decrease the swingweight...lol. make it more headlight by adding weight to the handle?

You can't reduce SW...you can only make a racquet more headlight. (But, it still won't reduce SW) Only thing you can do is to cut down the handle or take off the bumper guard! (other things too, just haven't mentioned them)

even though you're adding weight to the racquet...making it more headlight will make it easier to whip around right?

Statements are a bit contradictory, as you're implying that it is not possible to reduce SW, when it fact, you listed two of the ways to do so...

I think what he meant was that you can't add weight ANY PLACE on the racket to reduce swingweight. You can only do it by shortening the racket or by taking weight off. Cutting off some of the handle and you're basically getting a different racket altogether. Bumperguards weigh so little that trimming them down doesn't decrease swingweight much at all.

I remember a post a long while back where some guy added about 30-40 grams of lead to the butt of his racquet and he claimed his swingweight went way down. Kinda makes sense to me. Cuz there are all these 12.0+ oz racquets out there with swingweights at 320, and also 10 oz racquet with swingweight of 330. Why can't you decrease the balance point so much as to decrease swingweight?

You CANNOT REDUCE SW BY ADDING WEIGHT any where on the racket.

Why?

Because it's a function of WEIGHT.

You can trim the bumper to reduce weight, and thus SW. My Redondo's bumper weighted 4 grams. No kidding. That's a lot of weight running from 10 - 2 on the racket head.

You can also reduce SW by changing leather grip to synthetic ones, only if the synthetic grip is lighter than leather.

You add weight to the handle to make it FEEL HEADLIGHT and whippy, but NOT LOWERING the SW, and yet increasing it.

Got it?

whats the significance of having low/high sw any way?

Light sticks typically have a higher SW to compensate for the lack of static weight. Heavier sticks usually have a lower SW for maneuvrability. Now, there are light sticks that have a low SW - very easy to whip around but won't do much to the ball - and heavy sticks with a high SW. The latter can crush the ball, but are harder to use & demand a highly skilled operator.

If you don't find RDS002 to have the specs you like, why are you getting one? You may be very dissapointed if you're buying it with the assumption you can make it play to your specifications with modifcation.

I also can't understand how it is you're specifying a swingweight range (an extremely large range), then you come and ask what the significance of this is. How is it that you know what you want? If you know what you want, why are you buying a farme with specs far from what you desire? What about its stock playing characteristics are convincing you they need a modification?

To efficiently increase the swingweight of your frame, you will need to add lead to the head. You would have to add a significant amount to the handle to increase the swingweight to 330 and I would imagine you would completely destroy the original playing characteristics of the frame. A frame with all the weight concentrated in the handle and a nearly none in the hoop is going to be fairly weak for most strokes.

To keep balance and increase swing weight... add some lead to 10 (2g) and 2 (2g), add 4g to the throat (inside v), and 4g under the grip... notice, this will increase static weight as well. If this is an issue for you, you'll have to sacrifice balance and just add lead to the 10/2... I would also add some to the throat (but that's me and I like to preserve HL balance)

I'll have to respectfully disagree with you on this one. I took off my bumperguard on my PSC 6.1 classic and it weighed 12 grams. After I cut off the sides of the bumper, it weighed only 6.5 grams. That is a 5.5 gram difference and to me, when I play, that is significant. According to my rough calculations, 5.5 grams at the head of a racquet is about 12-15 or so swingweight points.

Add Lead tape at 3 and 9 oclock position on the head of your racket.

holy crap, just noticed your avatar. that's awesome how you can see the other side of the ball on the other side of federer's racquet. do you have the bigger picture of this?

i guess it's not that out of the ordinary, but really cool angle i think

It was posted somewhere on this site... I can't remember where, though. I just thought it was absolutely ridiculous how far out in front and straight-armed he hits his forehand.
