HOW TO LOWER THE SWING WEIGHT OF YOUR HEAVY US K90 by Michael Chaho

Is it a crime to fool around with another stick? even if on paper it might be stiffer? besides, I am trying to make the K90 play more flexible which is why I like the DNX10mid. I might give the 001 90 a try but not now I have way too many setups to test first.

How long can we stand by and idly watch him tinker with rackets?!! Someone call the cops already!

Anyway, I was a fischer fan (flexible rackets) untill I played with rds's. I didn't think I'd like such a frame with such stiffness, but I very much did (the midplus is 68). The mid version is not that stiff at 65 (compared to 67 for k90).

It looks like the rds001mid already comes with all those things you want to do to your k90 - it is less stiff and has 13 points less SW. You should try it.

EVERYONE, I HAVE MANY FRAMES OVER 500 AT ONE POINT, THAT I TEST. I AM NOT MARRIED TO ANY OF THEM. WHAT I DO WITH THEM IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS, IT IS A HOBBY FOR ME. I ENJOY WAISTING MY TIME TINCKERING WITH FRAMES/STRINGS. I ENJOY THE PROCESS OF TESTING DIFFERENT FRAMES WITH DIFFERENT SET UPS? IS THAT A CRIME?
Whoa didn't mean to upset nothin here! It's just the 001 does sound exactly what you're looking for; it's only a coupla RDC more flexible, but it feels much more than that. Swings easier AND better, more stable, larger sweetspot, it's got all the goods.

I apologize if I came on too strong. It is just that all of the sudden some are coming into this two month old thread with their recommendations when originaly no one cared before? I am not looking for recommendations. If you have suggestions to lower SW post them. How do you know what I might be looking for? The original post was an exercise for anyone whom might be interested in lowering the SW of his K90 or any other stick for that matter. The same techniques to lower SW can be applied to other frames whether they work or not it is up to the individual.

Before thee, oh master, I humble .... thanks for the idea!

I haven't hacked a racket shorter though. Only have made it longer.

One of the guys that I play with routinely took off a half an inch on his racquets. Not anymore though. I think that the larger headed racquets move the sweetspot down so you get the same effect today.

even tho i have been out trumped, i would like to acknowledge and say you're welcome anirut :) i sure didnt invent this idea...people have been doing it for many years

there are only certain frames where i think trimming the bumpers is a good thing to try..the k90 isnt one of them. michael seems to confirm this

I'm all for tinkering and have done a fair bit of it in the past but I'd rather play and learn instead of tinkering these days. It can take a fair amount of effort to do the customizations and then work to ensure that you have the same customizations across your frames.

I'm giving the K90 about three months and if nothing else, I should be able to play with a forehand grip that's a little more towards semi-western - my concession to the modern game so far.

I showed a lady in the office yesterday the semi-western and western grips. I showed here the K90 and she immediately grabbed it with an eastern forehand. She couldn't believe that anyone actually played with semiwestern and western grips and thought them very awkward until I explained the motivation for it (she has degrees in engineering and computer science).

Michael,

It sounds like what you really want is a real Asian K90. Just about as stable as the US K90 but swings much lighter, has a bit less power, and is much less tiring to play with.

Well, I could just go to a Redondo MidPlus for that.

I'm going to work on some game modifications for now. If it turns out to be too much, then I may consider something like the Redondo MidPlus or adding a little lead to the Redondo. I can hit a heavy topspin game with an eastern grip but having additional weapons and flexibility isn't all that bad long-term. But it means sacrificing matches short term.

Yes, you could, but the AK90 has a different feel than the Redondo and it also generates more spin. And some people prefer the smaller 90 sq. in. head.

I find that the Redondo has better feel than the K90 so the different feel wouldn't bother me. I've heard that the Redondo MP is quite a bit better than the Mid in the spin department too. The larger hoop size of the MP compared
to the K-Factors may help towards equalizing the spin potential compared to 90 sq in. models.

My previous racquets were 95 so I don't think that a 98 would make that much of a difference. Other then being harder to fit into my bag.

I like to buy a racquet and use it for ten or twenty years and the Redondo and K90 being relatively new are far more than I would have traditionally purchased. Of course this was mainly due to PK's business problems in the US.

The Redondo feels like a good friendly racquet which I could play with. I'm trying to enhance my game with the K90 but it will take a while and a lot of effort to do that.

It's amazing how people buy a racquet they ought to know is going to be unusable for them and butcher it into an undersized granny stick. The long Wilson thread is hilarious, with all these guys who went out and bought half a dozen K90s and now are desperate to get their hands on the asian version. Taking a K90 and paring down to a swingweight of 305....what must that play like?

Don't be too quick to forget those of us who are still happily swinging the US K90, like moi. ;) There are many others as well.

Also, I think it's important to remember this is a HOBBY, and people sometimes just ENJOY hitting other/different frames. It's part of the love of the game. ;)

Best,

CC

you have added nothing constructive here. The point of all this is that we can do whatever we want with the K90. We can customize the hell out of it in anyway shape or form. I can have this same "granny" stick play like a beast in 15 minutes , or I can have it go back to STOCK form in less than 15 minutes.

Now to answer your question, at 305 it played like crap, any other questions?

Or you could spend more time buying a racquet that is more suitable to your playing level and practice more. PS. Don't cut yourself..

what a lame response, the usual find a frame that is suitable for your playing level and practice more? you sound like a broken record. what does that mean?

I guess you have not heard of people customizing frames and playing for fun.

people do not seem to understand this concept, strange

It IS strange, isn't it? I mean, the bottom line is so plain, so simple: What works well for one person my not work so well for another. Or, said another way, my PERSONAL experience is just that: MY experience. It may or may not (most likely, NOT) translate well to others.

Succinctly: Share, but don't seek to judge. ;)
