Just for fun , a friend of mine wants to paint one of his LM instinct in all black, but in order to avoid to change too much the original overall weight of his racquet, he has to remove the original varnish and paint, so does anyone knows how to do that? Is there a product to use?

When my friend will paint his racquet, what type of paint and varnish will he have to use?

Is this not a bit too expensive to do, "just for fun"?

My advice is get some very thin auto sand paper and be very gentle. There is a thread on this.

Although I've never tried it, I know that pouring a can of brake fluid onto you car paint, leave it for a while, and you can easily peel off the paint.

I would look for some 3M products. They make some great products for car paint. You have to be careful if there is carbon in your racquet, paint does not bond well with Carbon Fiber, you need to have a special bonding agent. But graphite is easily painted. Check with your local autobody shop, they will know what to use that won't damage the graphite.

I stripped a yonex MP tour-5. Here's what worked best: Get chemical stripper (not the orange citrus crap), brush it on the racquet, give it about fifteen minutes and wipe off the varnish, paint, lettering etc. You might need a second coat in some spots. What you will have left is a matte-finish racquet. You could leave it that way or spray paint it with an enamel paint. I sprayed mine with Black Satin Rust-Oleum. Use many light coats and be carful to not clog the grommet holes. If you do clog them, like I did, run a drill through the hole to blast out the paint. The all black racquet gets lots of looks at the club.
