How to reinstall buttcaps without relying on staples

I've just finished adding weights to the handle and I must say, there MUST be a better way of attaching and removing butt caps. I'm trying to find a way to not have to remove the grip and fork out staples when I decide to take out the butt cap again. Anyone found any creative solutions to this?

Nails? (That's a joke) For most people, the butt cap rests against the bottom of their hand; and during a swing, there is significant force pulling at the butt cap. It has to be a method that can resist all that pulling. Staples work well because they can hold against that force, and yet still be (relatively) easy to remove. There aren't many (I can't think of any right now) ways to hold the butt cap in place AND still be easy to remove when needed.

Wilson makes replacement butt caps with a trap door built in to them. Many Prince butt caps have a plastic cover with the Prince logo on it that if removed gives access to the handle. Everyone else's has to be removed. Sounds like an opportunity to come up with a better mouse trap, huh?

My butt cap slides when I play what do I need to do, I cant put extreme spin on the ball because the but cap wont stay will! do I just add staples? I dont have a staple gun... also, the older butt caps are squared on the bottm the trap doors like the triad is more rounded.. better fell, should I just replace that thing, also if you restaple so many times would the handle just have too many hoes in it and die!?

I use "100 mile an hour" tape. Works great, no problems, and I really swing hard! Any type of strong tape should work fine.

problem with super glue, or any kinda glue for that matter, is that once you glue it back on, don't even think about taking it off again, :? :?

if you don't have a staple gun then just use small 1/4 inch tacks (nails), and hammer 3 or 4 of them into the grip,

That's why silicone is better. Not too much, though - preferably a little on the inside of the butt cap, and a little on the outside.

I used 4 thin nails about 1/2 inch long. Did the trick and better than staples. You need to use something or that butt cap is going to come off after a few hard swings.

Wouldnt there be so many holes the nails would be too big to get on the handle? I think I'll use the 100 mile an hour tape or silicone... sure silicone will hold? Those peel off easily, nails, I dont use replacement grips just 2 overgrip, wouldnt that puncture the grips and rip my hand off? My hand is messed up more than it is by holding the racket the wrong way... :p

Use hot glue. It is used with hockey sticks, and as long as you have a tight fit, it will hold it very good. Then just take it off by adding heat, melting the glue.

I think over time, using nails or any other type of puncture is only going to weaken the base area of the handle to the point where you're going to have to use glue or tape. My TiRadicals are graphite all the way into the handle, and that stuff gets brittle when you start driving nails into it.

Tape is quick, easy to put on, and take off, does the job and does not affect the comfort or dimensions of the the grip in any significant way. It's also not messy like glues or silicone. Buy a roll from your $1 shop.

Agree with you about messing up the handle after a while. My 5g's are hard that a regular (non electric) staple gun won't drive staples through it. The staples just crumple up. I use some duct tape and some packing tape. I loop the duct tape over the end of the handle with the sticky side out with about 2" of tape running up the length of the handle. I force the butt cap over that. Then I use packing tape to secure the duct tape in place. Then, using the packing tape, I tape the butt cap to the handle lengthwise, then wrap more packing tape around the handle and butt cap to secure tape and all in place. I've never felt the butt cap even move.

Really, any tape with decent adhesive will do. I use tape that is about an inch and a half - 2 inches wide and has a kind of material-based feel about it (rips easily along a line when you tear it) and has a shiny, plastic-like surface. Perhaps even standard electrical tape will do.

Try a hardware shop, a stationery shop, or as I said, any line of "budget, we sell all sorts of cheap garbage product" type shops.

The tennis shops will probably sell an over-inflated, over-hyped, intellifibre version that will be just as good as a $1 roll bought from your corner shop.
