How To Take Your Matchplay Game To The Next Level?

Let me say this...

If you are a competitive tennis player, the one question you need to start asking yourself is....

"How can I take my matchplay game to another level?"

Well... I'm going to give you a few tips here.

Stop going to practice when you don't feel like playing.

I see juniors and adults going to practice or in their lessons with no energy or low energy.

Then they try to play with high energy and intensity in their matches and it doesn't work.

You can't just turn your energy on like that... you must bring it to practice daily and feel that you ALREADY have it.

In this case.

The feeling is the secret!!!

Next.

Play with all out passion all the time.

Passion is contagious and it sets the tune of practice.

It allows you to play in the moment and enjoy the performance.

In my high school days in practice... you couldn't help but feed off all the passion and energy that was being created by our coach in practice!!

And it motivated us to play up to our full potentail in every practice.

This is so important, because what he was teaching us was the "Law of Consistency".

In this case.

"If you play up to your full potential in practice every day, it will carryover into your matchplay."

Last thing.

Develop the tennis warrior mindset.

This states that...

"You are always in a state of becoming on the court".

Just what that becoming actually is, will depend on what you focus on during practice, as well as outside of practice.

Create a imagine in your mind of the player that you want to become and then HOLD that imagine, while you play yourself into it!!!

The one thing that coaches don't teach enough of to their players is... (How to use ther imagination to become the player that they want to be in the future)!!!

You see.

This is how you can take your matchplay game to another level.

By the way.

These tips are ONLY for the serious players out there, that aren't happy with where they are right now in there careers!!!

You other clowns need not comment!!!

Your only as good as your worst day. I disagree with this one since we get the most benefit of practice when we arent playing well.

Doesn't rule #1

Stop going to practice when you don't feel like playing.

contradict rule #2

Play with all out passion all the time.

Not necessarily - I read it as 'if you don't think you can play with all out passion, don't play at that time"

Fair enough. I could see that concept leading to problems, though.

"Hey coach, I'm not passionate about tennis today so don't put me in the lineup."

[To oneself] "I don't feel like doing my exercises today; I'll do them tomorrow."

If you use the passion thing as a way to let yourself off the hook, it could become a habit.

And that's right, only play when you feel like playing...

What about tournaments? They tell you when you have to play.

You get more out of practice on a bad day then you do a good day. Why its good to practice when you dont feel like it. Gotta be able to push through and play normal.

Part of the displine higher level players go through. Injury/fatigue being the exception
