For football fans needless to say this one. As I'm sure many people know even the non-football fans Leicester did the near-impossible last season and win the league, having just survived relegation the previous year. Possibly the greatest underdog story in sporting history.

So what do people think they can do next season I find it very hard to imagine they'd be anywhere close to where they were, think I read somewhere that they have greater odds to be relegated next season than win it again. I'd be inclined to agree, so many teams are going to be stronger next season and so many of their players were quite simply having the season of their lives all at the same time, plus they have all those extra games from Champions League now, but I very much doubt they'd be relegated. They do have a few gems and even if they lose the likes of Kante which it looks as though they may they will get very good money which if spent well could ease that blow.

So what do people think? Have put a poll. League and Champions League no point going beyond that. See what people think....

If they manage to keep all of their stars and/or make good buys in the transfer window, I think they can definitely reach Europa League spots.

Champions League - will depend on the group. Winning the league puts them in Pot 1 so they have avoided a lot of toughest teams. Last 16 is definitely possible, but nothing further than that IMO.

Tough one.

Last year they didn't do particularly well in the cups, were knocked out by spurs and Hull, so it doesn't bode well for the CL knockouts. Or maybe they were just concentrating on the league, obviously having a fantastic chance to finish top4 at the time.

I think they'll finish around mid table (or above) something like 7th-11th, basically an Everton like season which would still be decent.

As for the CL who knows really, we've got to see the draw and how their players handle the pressure of the biggest stage (although to be fair they've beaten Stoke at the Britannia before ;)). My (very) optimistic prediction is quarterfinals, mind you still better then Arsenal. be the first English team I will be rooting for in a European Cup since Newcastle. :p (obviously besides Liverpool)

It's still early days though, don't ever underestimate the importance of the transfer window!!! :p

Now that pep and mourinho are at the 2 Manchester clubs I expect maybe 1 of them to win the league
Maybe even Chelsea. Don't expect much from Leicester this season.

They have got much more coin than last year. Probably around 8th. Though I could conceivably see a situation in which they struggle big time.

The Champions League is an interesting one, they are much more likely to win that than the Premier League, much easier to have a shock in a knock out competition than over a 38 game league. Look at Real Madrid's draw last year ffs. Not a stretch to say last years Leicester could have had a chance, even if being far from the best team in europe. Portugal showed at euro 2016 you don't need to be the best team ton win the cup.

Being top seeds (and avoiding Real, Barca, PSG, Juve and Bayern) gives them a good chance of getting out of the group anyway (and maybe topping it, all depends on the draw then. QFs would hardly be a surprise imo

Although I suppose generally looking at the English performance in the champions league in recent years is a grim tale and doesn't inspire faith. When was the last time Arsneal reached a QF??? City finally reaching the Semis last year after years of failure and huge investment was seen as a some sort of triumph ffs.

Yeah I would not be too surprised to see them struggle. All the extra games and everything else, the players coming back to earth which is inevitable to me, most of those players not really that good, but should have enough players who are good plus if they bring in some good players. The depth in the Premier League is quite good though now you look at the likes of Stoke as a typical mid-table team have a pretty good side with some quality players. Don't really see Leicester's squad being much if any better than that really and I expect them to perform similarly.

Yeah as top seeds they have a chance in the Champions League, depends on the draw though of course, am sure they'll be some good 3rd and 4th seeds so who knows, really depends on the group. Wouldn't see them reaching the quarters though if they did get through.

The classic 6 or 7 big clubs will be safe, everyone else - including Leicester - will essentially be fighting relegation. I'm gonna say mid table, lower half. I wouldn't be shocked if they got relegated.

Don't think they will get out of the group stage in champions league, but not sure yet. I have to see the draw.

Premier league 7-11th

League: I think 5th or 6th, still a very good season for a club of their size. I think they'll miss Kante, and Mahrez looks like he might go, but Mendy and Musa look like shrewd signings.

Champions league: I think they'll get out of their group easily enough (unless they draw 3 big teams), and will probably get knocked out by a bigger side in the last 16.

I said Top 4 - meaning 4th. If it was so easy to beat their style, someone would have done it last year.

They didn't get picked clean (yet)....

But playing CL could wear them down - so I see why most of you are calling the drop-off.

I wonder what odds the bookies are giving for a) they get relegated....

Just thought I'd bump this thread. Given their poor opening against probably the biggest favourite to go down wonder if that's affected anyone's perceptions. Have to say they looked pretty damn average at best.

One season wonders imo. I think they will get found out in the premier League because everybody knows how they operate and the loss of Kante means the back four are much more exposed. Hull City have already demonstrated how to expose them in midfield on saturday and I fear more and more teams will do the same.

As for the Champions League, I reckon they could surprise a few given that other European teams wouldnt know how they play and that they are in pot 1. However Ranieri has a pretty small squad for a team who has won the league and I think that playing in Europe will stretch the squad.

Well pretty good group for them. Can see them qualifying from that, probably in second, then out in the 2nd round. Still that'll be good. That and staying up would be a good season for them to be honest.

Sad to see him head back to Italy, but he had lost the plot and staying up is far bigger than any one man.
I disagree. Ask yourself, who's more likely to help Leicester bounce back? A random second-tier candidate (because that's all Leicester will get now) or the guy who won them the Premiership? Utterly ridiculous they don't have faith in him to correct his mistakes.

His signings in the summer have turned out to be duds so far, although musa has potential. Leicester don't have any ambition in the Premiership this season and a new manager won't change much but dropping into the relegation zone should motivate them to some preformances.

It was a ridiculous decision to sack him but I think they will have enough to stay up now they are almost knocked out the cups and need results.

To be fair, teams usually have an uptick in fortunes when a new manager comes in. Maybe it's only for half a dozen games, but if it keeps them up, the money it generates will be worth it.

I'm sad to see Ranieri go, but I can understand the thinking behind the decision.

Based on the Liverpool match tonight it looks like in the EPL matches they've been holding back until now. They won't be going down so long as the players make an effort and I think they will now.

Maybe yeah. I said a few posts back that a lot of teams go on a good run after sacking their manager. If sacking Ranieri means they stay in the Premier League, collect their money and keep hold of their players (or at least sell them for a good price, a lot of players release clauses are void if they get relegated).. Then they made the right move.

Amen.

Big Sam is now regretting taking the Palace job. He just wanted back in there too quickly, although nobody is relegated yet.

Before he got the Palace job, there was a lot of talk round here about him going to Wolves  he's from Wolverhampton, but still, as bad as Palace are it could of been worse haha.

I would like to have seen Ranieri stay as it was largely a handful of star players who let the team down. But it appears they have a few big name managers in their sights...I don't think money is an issue. The loss of revenue and prestige from being relegated is very significant with no real expectation of bouncing right back the following year.
