How would Medvedev have done today?

Today's result felt like it was 50/50 due to Alcaraz's high level and Djokovic's low level. But do we think it was bad enough that even the hard court pusher could've moved Novak around the court as effectively as Alcaraz did? Or would he just keep feeding neutral balls and allow Djokovic to find his rhythm? Were all the weak replies Alcaraz stepped around to hit for winners the difference in the match, or could Med have simply grinded Novak down instead?

Particularly interested in the thoughts of @Kralingen

Unless Novak's level was heavily hampered by the knee rehabilitation, I don't see how could the Serbian ever beat Medvedev again in a Slam. Novak's level has dropped so significantly it's like viewing a different player nowadays.

Even if he had gotten close to winning I would have simply called in a bomb threat before the deciding set

I imagine Meddy would have taken it in 3 or 4. Djokovic didn't have the energy to hit through and had no appetite for grinding and Medvedev is the ultimate grinder.

I can’t see Medvedev pounding the ball the way Alcaraz did, moving Novak around so well, or throwing perfect droppers in at all. He’d lose imo.
This is key. Not completely sure he’d lose, but Medvedev not being able to generate pace on his own would have been an obvious problem. Also, the Russians’s serve hasn’t been too good lately.

Med would have had a serious chance to win, Nole while outplayed by Raz was also flat coming out. Med could have grinded him down.

Yeah, as bad as Novak was form-wise, against Med you know he would have gotten his teeth into the match at some point and might have been able to grind himself over the line eventually.

Alcaraz had the firepower to just shut the door down on this Novak, Med doesn't.

Nor the movement. No way I can see him taking 3 sets off even this Novak on grass. USO? Sure.
