How would you schedule the rest of Nadals year for winning the big tournaments only?

And not chasing number 1 ranking?

In more recent years he seems to take a bit longer to get up to full potential on clay and I would say he doesn't need to waste energy/risk injury on hard courts at this time of year so I would probably go

Argentina open
Rio open
Chillie open
Skip Indian Wells and Miami
Monte-Carlo
Barcelona
Madrid
Skip Rome and be 100%fresh
French Open

Queens
Wimbledon

Rogers cup
Cincinnati
US Open

Rest up a bit

Vienna
Paris
WTF

Just for fun, how would you schedule him?

Only play grand slams. That's it. Maybe a couple of clay tournaments(Rome and Barcelona) and IW. That's it.

Make a baby.

Hope he protects his body for the upcoming season ahead and plays what it allows him to do - prioritising the majors.

Following that if there’s any time left I need a doubles partner for a local O35’s tournament at Easter.

No Barcelona so he can save more energy for RG.

Last year he played 4 clay tournaments before French...MC, Barca, Madrid and Rome. Won two of them but was clearly not dominating.

I suggest he skips one of them Barca/Madrid and play only 3 clay court.

Play nothing before Wimbledon

Play only canada before US Open.

As for IW, Miami can play one of them

Would he not be too rusty and out of form and fitness to win them then?
Maybe or maybe not. He showed that he can without a huge amount of practice. So the old methods of crazy scheduling should go. I want him to make a baby and not win endless tournaments. His foot will not allow him to play a lot of tournaments anyway. A bit like what Federer did with his scheduling in his twilight years.

Fed and Djokovic may indulge in coaching as their kids would've grown up in a few years. Nadal is a family man. He will not indulge in coaching anyone or be on tour until his kids are old - that's like 20-25 years from now.
